Rain definitely helps me get to sleep; it's so peaceful. Temperature is also important. Being too cold is bad, but being too hot is bad, too. It needs to be just right (at 12:09 AM, that's the best wording that I can come up with).

"Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions"
this band just makes me want to sleep whatever the time of day. Its the only band that has ever made me do that.

When answering, please do not include drugs of any kind. This includes caffeine or prescription meds.

Example: What helps me go to sleep is the sound of rain. It comforts me knowing that I am warm and dry inside. Also, a hard days work or a few days of bad insomnia earlier will let be sleep pretty quickly.
Rain, although it brings me peace, its too rare a commodity so i go outside and watch it fall. (I live in the desert)

6mg of melatonin, nightly right about now. I'm out like a light within an hour.

A lack of sleep.
I have permanently messed up my sleeping habits, and I do only sleep one night of two.

Call me crazy, but bourbon and milk leads to a nice relaxing night of sleep, apart from that, the right movie works wonders.

Sex. It's the only thing guaranteed to make me sleepy.

... Apart from being stroked on the side of my head. That literally disarms me.

Playing Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced. During my first playthrough, I always felt oddly listless, like it sucked the energy out of me. After that, it simply made me nod off in the middle of battles.

the sound of my jacked up fan... it's un-balanced, so it make a rhythmic pulsing noise that I find hypnotic
Ha! I have a fan that does the EXACT same thing. But I can't sleep without it, or some other type of white noise.

The sound of rain. Also I nearly always have my fan on, even on really cold nights.
So we're not the only ones. I have to have it on even in the dead of winter. Granted, I live in the desert...

Rain (I don't have windows in my room but I do have a fireplace and can hear it through the chimney).

Reading a good book.

Doing homework. This never fails EVER.

By bathing in the blood of my slain enemies! Lol xD.

In all seriousness though...as long as im not exposed to any major forms of 'high octane nightmare fuel', i tend to sleep fine. That and a glass of water before i sleep.

Power Metal is like a cure-all magic thing. Long car journey? Throw on everything you've got. Can't sleep? Pick a favorite. Broke up with girlfriend? Choose a sad one.

Power Metal then, and also podcasts. Manga Pulse does wonders - I stay awake just long enough to hear the whole thing, get to turn it off, and then hit the hay miniutes later.

The political channel on TV , that stuff will knock-out anyone in less than 10 minutes, guaranteed.

I normally have a cup of tea but I suppose that falls into the caffeine/drugs section.

Other than that I have a selection of films that are guaranteed to put me to sleep, the current one that works 99% of the time is Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, a film I found so boring it generally knocks me out within the first 20 minutes.
