Amnesia, I played it at night only and because of that, it was totally dark around me when playing. Had headphones on...ahh... and when dad came in my room to tell me to go to sleep at 3am and i didnt hear him come in...oh the scream i cried XD
i loved the game, the idea of having no weapons to save yourself expect to hide in the dark was wonderful!
but on another note... i havent played many horror games...
I thought the smart person's rule was first and foremost: Never play a horror game in the dark. I had a friend at one time who was stupid enough to do that when I laoned her my copy Fatal Frame 1. She was back in less than 15 minutes with it, shoved it into my hands and ran back to her house in the middle of the night where she ran into my mailbox, got back up, and then kept running.
to me, the point of a horror game is to scare you, so i turn off the lights and experience it to the best i can.
Would you watch a horror film with all the lights on and a script next to you of when to scream?

The game itself didn't unsettle me too much (I played it years later), but as a child I had a disc for my Playstation 1 that had a trailer for the first Silent Hill game. The music of it creeps me out...
I think the only game I ever tried cheating my way through was GTA1, also as a child. The huge weapon range (four) blew my mind.
