When will Treyarch and Infinity Ward realize that if they want to put out a Call of Duty game every year, they're going to A) run out of wars to simulate and B) have to think up some new mechanics for the game to stay fun.

I honestly hope Battlefield 3 beats out Call of Duty.

if it dosent i will be VERY VERY mad

i dont hate cod i got hardened version of black ops great games and all but battle field is better

i like the guns the squad systems the vehicles the classes the balance the look (i hear to look its best its gonna use 8 processers! oh god that game is going to look good) i just like the general feel of it

also its pretty hard to get used to all the vehicles (mostly helicopters) and the fact that there is a point to getting something outher than an assult rifle, so most trolls get fed up and go play a more accessable game

or so it seems

*blink*

You mean if one gray military multiplayer shooter beats another gray military multiplayer shooter?

(Before I get soaked in acrimony, yes, I recognize there are differences between the two; I have played entries in both. But, still...)

Oh, I'm sure there will be some fevered over-analysis and hand-wringing. Bobby Kotick will probably fire some people, since that seems to be his favored response to just about everything. Seas boiling? Dogs and cats living together? Mass hysteria? Probably not. Maybe the next CoD will have a little more emphasis on multiplayer and a little less emphasis on trying to make the single-player look like a Hollywood Tom Clany knock-off.

Call of Duty is a silly arcade shooter with a huge child fanbase.

Even if Battlefield 3 doesn't "beat" it in sales, it still wins in my book.

Mainstream popular? No.

Gamer Popular? It already won that. More PC gamers and PS3 gamers are into Battlefield. Its sales in Europe are huge also. It's just in the US we are stupid

If Battlefield 3 (12th installment) beats Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (8th installment) then it will become the next series to be put out year on year on year, until Call of Duty takes over and so on and so forth until the "realistic" FPS dies a slow, painful death.

And during all of this better games will be sadly missed by the majority of people...and Half Life 3 MIGHT just be out :p

Personally like some I believe that the Battlefield series has a purer lineage than Call Of Duty, I've been a fan since the original Battlefield Vietnam, of course the high points of the series to date being prioritising the PC over consoles, which in turn provides a better experience for everyone if you start with the most powerful all round rig and scale down from there, doing it the other way around leads us to dreaded ports, the worst example of which being Saints Row 2 for PC. *Shudders at the memory*. Anyway I'm waffling a bit, but yes, what kept me coming back was the fanbase, particularly the PC crowd, don't get me wrong, I have a PS3 too, but Battlefield's main support up until Bad Company was from the PC gamers, most of which I found to be a mature, pleasant and well sported crowd. Of course you can meet some fairly nice chaps and lasses on Live and Psn, sadly, the consoles are riddled with what I call the 'screamers' and other such ilk. Were Battlefield to expand from it's comfortable and snug basket into the fairly bleak Call Of Duty territory, we would no doubt have wailing brats, cheaters, potty mouthed ragers and so forth all over quicker than Swine Flu. They are welcome to their Call Of Duty, I shall instead enjoy Battlefield for the fun it has brought to me for many years.

I personally feel the BF3 is going to be the better game out of it and CoD coming out this year, but CoD will still keep its top place simply because people have played it before and go 'OMG CoD!'
If BF3 does take over, for me this would be a great satisfaction, and a great disappointment. The Satisfaction would come from having CoD dethroned, and having the better game take its place. That and the fact that one of the 'will sell well no matter what' games will have been bought down to your average game's level, which is IMHO where it belongs.
The Disappointment would be that the Battlefield community would become even more flooded with hackers and young gamers who find it acceptable to scream obsenities into the microphone who would have to come from the CoD fanbase
I agree with this. I'm a Battlefield loyalist, and I'd hate to see the Battlefield community flooded with the community that has made Call of Duty so unplayable for me. I think it'll be a case of Battlefield 3 being the better game, while the new CoD game being more popular, which in my opinion is how the hierarchy sits now.

I personally don't think that it will beat COD,mainly because of the fact that the COD community is way larger than the battlefield one.

*points at the March's Mayhem votes between Mojang and Bioware*

Majority will always win in most fights when it will come to a vote.

It'll mean that it'll be wicked! If Infinity are staying on for the next CoD installment and DICE keep improving on some fantastic work then it really will be a great year for present day FPS. If it's those two devs battling it out then it'll be interesting to see which one pulls out in front.

Of course, if the rumours of Infinity Ward having the Call of Duty franchise taken off them are true then it's high time to watch someone take down the Call of Duty franchise for good.
Those aren't really rumors now. If I remember correctly, the two heads of IW left and soon half of the team followed suit. They're trying to get the CoD licence from Activision but I think ACtivision is just too stubborn to let it go.
Some google searching has now made me sad. Looks like IW is still together for now but looking to recruit new people to replace all those that left. It could be a fantastic renovation to the series (like MW was in the first place) or could be the end.

Save us Cliff Blezinski!
I just love the fact you are asking someone to help who excels in NOTHING but repetitive gameplay

I don't even think a new COD is out this year especially not MW3 as there is the court case starting soon and the rights are in the fray for it. BF3 though looks and plays so well it is probably the best shooter since bad company 2. I do however wish them luck and hope it beats COD's sales if there is one
