There's no eBay.
Only Bay.

And actually I've read the NASA article about the flares. They think it might happen around 2012. Coincidence? I think so!

Probably not, what with Ebay dieing and what not, But now I know how I can protect certain things I need in order live: Put a Small functioning fridge, Vital Diabetic Tools and a few things else into a large box with it's innards covered in Tinfoil and I'll bury it in the back yard. Then when everything I own breaks down one day, I dig up the box.

Also, people have brought up that we could just re-fix all our tech. While this might not help with Food problems of the Speedy Delivery, that is probably what's gonna happen. Though I think their'd be some rioting and electric companies will force you to pay millions for every electronic to be fixed.

Well, given that everyone on the planet would need electronics to be fixed, it'd probably cost very little. After all, Supply&Demand right? If you know how to fix stuff, and EVERYBODY needs that help, then you could charge 1 dollar to everybody, and get almost $7billion.

It'd be interesting to try out for a day or a week.

But forever, most people probably wouldn't do well. I think I'm among them.

I'm actually writing a book on this concept. If only I could get over my writer's block.

A significant coronal mass ejection is likely to happen soon. And a large enough coronal mass ejection may penetrate Earth's magnetosphere.

But you forget that even if both of these are true, the coronal mass ejection actually has to hit Earth. That's quite unlikely, what with the massive size of space and all. Plus it would only affect the side of the planet facing the Sun.

I initiate emergency plan Charlie (detonation of EMP over America).

Step one, confirmation. I confirm this by using some back-up electronics that I intentionally leave unplugged (because if it has no power then it is protected) to see if they work.
Step two, spread the word. Once confirmation is done we tell the rest of the town, who 90% of them have never even heard of it or thought it was fantasy, but the police will listen (as I have a couple friends on the local force who are smart enough to listen) will move into action to help secure local order.
Step three through six are classified, because they refer to places that I need to keep secure in order to maintain and produce or obtain needed supplies like clean water, food, weapon supplies, blanket, seeds for needed crops (hemp for cloth, yukka for soap, various low maintenance crops for food, ect.), and tools for needed survival (Hand-cranked Flour Mill for food and weapon production, generator for power, ect).

I even have the instructions on how to produce fuel from human wast. Yes, gas from poo. Poo is very useful it is also needed in the production of Black Powder, I can even use cow manure to supplement existing supplies.

Many of my plans are based on the assumption that the citizens around me will listen to me and take destiny in their own hands. Some will not be impressed by my plans and will try to force me to wait for the Government to save us, but they will be busy responding to the situation.

We are at, absolute most, 7 days away from loss of civilization. Only three days of food is stored in most grocery stores and most people only have three or four more for emergencies (one good thing about tornado ally is that most are prepared for three days). Once the food is gone so is civilization, this is why I have also considered the construction of a small grain mill, powered by a beast of burden (best case is that everyone works with me and we can build the mill in the state prison and utilize the free labor, at least until their scheduled release).

No matter what, the state prison here posses a problem. Either, we utilize them and they live (albeit in a state close to slavery), get out and potentially cause problems or we ignore them and they either starve to death or die rioting (guess which one of these is most likely).

No matter what, a world like this will have situations that I do not know if most modern Americans can handle. Do you turn away refugees because your settlement does not have the resources to support more people, or do you let them in and risk starvation? Can you kill to protect yourself, your family, your community? Can you do all that is necessary to live through this disaster? If you answer no, find someone who answered yes, stay behind them, follow their orders, when the fighting starts hid in the corner and cry hoping that someone will save you. If you answer no and you can not find someone to protect you, you will die or worse.

I am at 50% readiness at the time of this post. By the year 2011, I should be at 100%. God willing I will not need any of my six emergency plans and will be remembered for being the crazy paranoid guy who has a secret bunker. I hope I am the crazy paranoid guy who has a secret bunker, because if I am not everyone will have a bad day.

I would no longer be able to play DnD(got all the books on my computer). That would make me sad. BUYING from Wizards of the Coast? ARE YOU MAD!? I pay enough for their miniatures.

My future career is in computer science... I'd be just a little bit fucked in teh ass too.

You know, I had this thought a while back...

My opinion? I give it two weeks...less... before everything becomes anarchy.

As long as obtaining food and water isn't too big a problem i really wouldn't be that bothered.

We just need to take precautions to make sure food/water systems can keep on functioning, as well as protecting some computery stuff so it doesn't take 4 years to get it all kick started again.

It has happened many times before. Saying it is unlikely is a little too late. Last time i believe it blacked out many cities and caused fires across the western us as power lines melted and what not.
