We would have a warning of up to several days before it hits us which means that precautions could be taken (some as simple as shutting the grid down for the duration) and very little damage would result.
This is one of the reasons that the Sun is watched by satellites and observatories. Remember it will not be the light from the Sun but matter which travels much slower than light so we will have warning that something is happening.
I was panicking but then I read this, which seems to make sense.

This is also assuming it does happen.

I would no longer be able to play DnD(got all the books on my computer). That would make me sad. BUYING from Wizards of the Coast? ARE YOU MAD!? I pay enough for their miniatures.

My future career is in computer science... I'd be just a little bit fucked in teh ass too.
Maybe you shouldn't play miniatures like us real D&D men.

EDIT: Shit, double post.
Having an actual dragon piece is part of my fun.
Well, I guess I can understand wanting a dragon...

Im not troubled, being a survivalist i have stockpiled my home to supply me with enough food and water to wait out a full blown zombie apocalypse... I have reinforced walls, doors, windows. I hope something happens, otherwise all the money i put into it will go to waste =/

Without reading ANYTHING that's been posted prior:

Most of the common sheeple would be SOL. It's been stated that America would tear itself apart within 3 weeks of the electric grid going offline for keeps.

If you're REALLY worried about it, throw all yer shit in a faraday box.

Well dang, at least let it wait two years for me to go and be back with my girlfriend who's a few states away. Plus, I hope it doesn't happen during my flight training. That'd suck...

... but we shouldn't be too afraid. Most military grade / officer grade tech is EMP proof, so stuff required to keep at least contact with some countries would remain intact, criminal records and such would as well. It wouldn't be the collaspe of society, but the first day would be the worst. Especially for any poor bastard on a flight when that happens.

Though I honestly doubt anything's gonna happen, so we shouldn't worry too much about it.
