One word, lasers. Laser cannon = bye bye meteorite.
You, sir, missed the point.

Anyhow, I think, if we were wise as a species (HAHAHAH) we would go on one last bender to end all benders. Burn ALL THE FOSSIL FUELS, MAKE ALL THE SPACESHIPS, USE ALL THE RESOURCES, JOIN ALL THE COUNTRIES!

The government(s) wouldn't release the information anyway, lest it insight mass chaos (which it probably would).
Aaand that puts my apparently mistaken for a male count up to 14.

I would have said 'sir' if I had known anyway. (No offence intended.)
I like how it sounds.

Why should I care? I would care if it was 20 years but 200? Unless I had become immortal or had a prolong life to live that long, I leave the worry and concern to the living.

I think 2 things would happen. 1st, the world governments would conceal it from us. 2nd, a plan would be formulated to save some scrap of the human race, and it would have a lot of money behind it.

It actually wouldn't be a danger at all. Diverting the course of the asteroid by a tiny amount a hundred years ahead of time would cause it to miss us by a massive amount.

In 200 years, I'll be dead. I imagine I won't care much about anything at that point.

If it was an asteroid, methinks with 200 years of warning we would have alot of time to intercept and/or divert it.

If it was anything that would wipe out all life on the world, i hope our successors do a better job than we did.

If it destroys the plannet itself, ill be glad that ill be dead by then.

I'd say sink trillions of dollars into some sort of MAC cannon to destroy the asteroid or poor it into space programs and escape to Mars and the Moon.
I say yes, MAC it's ass to another planet (hehe)!

But the Mars and Moon plan doesn't sound bad either, but what about the (quite) possible debris?

Honestly if the world is coming to an end in 200 years because of something we can't prevent I will do nothing. I will keep living like I do now which isn't exactly the best for the environment, but I do try not to be too bad. In 200 years I will be dead. Even if I get kids they will be dead. No-one I know will be alive in 200 years. I wont feel sad for anyone because I don't know who to feel sad for. There's no use in giving up and saying we're just going to die soon anyway since a lot of things can happen in 200 years. Maybe we can survive, maybe not. However I would at least do my part to make sure we get at least those 200 years.

That was my first thought, but then I thought of how pissed Id be if I grew up, found out a meteor was heading for Earth, everyone has known about it for over 100 years, and didn't even TRY to do anything about it 0.0

Im sure other people would feel the same, enough to at least make plans of how to deal with this thing.

OP: Im a little confused, you say you just used a meteor as an example of impending doom, and then asked if we could escape said certain doom in that time? Are you asking for opinions on how people would behave knowing everything was gonna go ker-plunk in 200 years? Or if its possible for us to handle certain doom (obviously not if its CERTAIN doom) such as a meteor thats on a crash course for Earth? I find it hard to believe that in 200 years, we couldnt do ANYTHING about a meteor... unless its as big as Saturn - but even then we could try and evacuate to Mars or something like that.

same thing I'm doing now: drinking copious amounts of alcohol, occasionally trying to jump off of office buildings, and screaming at the poor sods who try to talk me into rehab. "I DON'T NEED ANY OF YOUR F@#$ING HELP!" *THROWS SOMETHING ON THE GROUND*
"I'M AN ADULT!"

While I do care, that's only because I'm optimistic about future science and am totally planning to either be immortal or be cryogenically frozen.

I'd expect a space elevator around 2060. By 2190, say, the only people still on the planet are those who don't actually want to leave, and their children who the government aren't able to rescue because of the crazy people being in the way.

In the late 2200s (the decade, that is, not the late 23rd century), millions of spacers visit Earth to say last farewells to our home planet, and just as importantly get utterly demolished in the party of the millenium. People pay good money to be on the last ships out, so they can moon the apocalyptic asteroid, and generally yell "nyah! missed me!"

So yeah, optimistic overall.
