what if you didn't need to do any work?

I don't think I would be happy. I would probably try to find a job that I would enjoy and work part time or something. I would spend much of my extra time trying to get really good at something like marksmanship or get in really good shape. If I have any extra money then I might travel.

No.

I was brought up this way: The worst possible thing you can do is not carry your own weight. Your problems are your own, and if anything, you should be carrying the weight of the problems of those who you care for.

EDIT: For the reason, I practically sprinted out the door when I finished high school, and instead of going to college and making MORE money then I do now sitting around doing nothing but churning through classes I already know, I'm joining the work force.
I think he means more of...you made something...you get profits from it and you dont need to work ever...short answer bill gates...made something never needs to work...still does or else he will get bored

I can't believe people would get bored in that situation. I'd be out there exploring the world, visiting everywhere, doing everything. Who the hell would sit at home?
Totally agree. Strange (if commendable) that people can't find ways to enjoy their time or make it fulfilling. If I could function free from the shackles of obligation, I'd love doing whatever I wanted.

Assuming it's NOT welfare. Then the specter of guilt would make everything miserable.

No, he said salary. he's thinking of something along the lines of 'I saved 400 children, so now I get money for life.'

Unless I am indeed misunderstanding (Don't think I am), in which case...

I'd still work. Early success doesn't mean I should just sit around and collect interest. All it really means is that I get nicer things, and can perhaps get a bit crazier with what I choose to do in life. (Like starting the nation wide High School IT classes I've been thinking about).

Do you mean like welfare?
No, I'd much rather work, feel like I'm doing something productive and earning my lifestyle.
The way I was raised I suppose, welfare would be the ultimate last resort.

Point?
Whose life really has a 'point' anyway?
Relative to the universe, the entire human race is insignificant.
So I just make the point of my life just being alive and enjoying myself.
Work is tedious and detracts from my goal of pleasing myself.
So yes, I could easily live my life with free money.
Besides, I have no desire for superfluous material crap, except for my computer, so an average salary and a small apartment is more than enough.

Yes I could, but I'd do some work anyway, not the kind that always has me under deadlines and pressure, but you know, building stuff, cleaning, moving, helping. That kind of thing.

I don't think he means welfare, otherwise the question may as well be "would you be happy sucking money from others who need it and being the scourge of society for the rest of your life?"

His wording infers that you have done something to 'deserve' enough money to live on, for life, whether its write a jingle that rewards royalties or whatever.

I would devote my life to following my passions, including: guitar, gaming, and megalomania.

And possibly more relevantly, I wouldn't be here, as I'm currently only procrastinating by posting this.

I'd much prefer it actually.

I might finally get to producing some of the derpitude I have half-done, lying around.

I'm going into physical sciences for University.

When I get done, I'll likely work in the science.

So, I don't ever plan to work.

Just kidding, in all seriousness, scientists work a lot.

I've been out of work for over a year. I've not stopped applying, but I've exhausted my unemployment insurance. It is not a good feeling being on it, nor is it a good feeling to have a huge amount of time on your hands. Even with a backlog library of games, books, and tv shows to go through. I still find myself getting bored and irritated easily and end up wasting time browsing image sites.

Even if my financial security was good. I would still seek employment, because even when you have everything in the world, if you don't earn it yourself then what value, what meaning does it hold.

Oh hell yes. I'd spend some time traveling and then probably do a few university courses just for the pleasure of learning. By then, I'd probably have come up with new ideas to spend my time.
