What if you found out your partner had radical political views you disapproved of?

This didn't happen to me it is just a thought.
What if my girl friend and I are just watching a film when she goes "Oh by the way I am a Nazi". First of all I would say "well theoretical girlfriend, according to the Nazi's women weren't allowed, to have any interest in politics". Then it would hit me Oh Christ my girl friend is a Nazi!! What do I do?

Now say this person is the best partner you could ever have handsome/beautiful great body your sense of humour etc. But they turned out to have some radical political view you really disagreed with? Like Communist or something. (please don't turn this into an Op has no idea about politics , but I do so I shall correct him like the snob I am,thread. That's not what we are going for here)
I would probably at least try to work around this, unless she starts goose stepping in the street or something. What do you lot think?

Meh, people are entitled to their own opinions and that's fine as long as I don't have to constantly hear about them.
but.......what if........They are constantly like "hey [your name here] wanna come to the third Reich fan club, I ironed your uniform for you.. the Fuhrer would love to meet you"

I know it wasnt in the original question but you have been chosen, for the extra part of the question. (because I imagine you talking like Fluttershy)

Well, I certainly wouldn't want her to raise my children.
Might keep her around for a while to have something to stick my dick in though.

You realize this is a ludicrous example, right? It'd be difficult enough and a compelling enough dilemma if you were a dyed in the wool liberal and your significant other started spouting conservative dogma. But a NAZI?

I'd first wonder how I could have missed this in the whole getting to know/friendship/dating phase.

Then I'd probably leave. The type of person you choose to be with reflects on you, and I'm just not cool being with a Nazi, Commie, or Hippie.

Off topic much?
I don't see this as impossible unlikely maybe, she may have not wanted to tell me in case I reject her for her beliefs or something.
Just chill and rock with it, it was only an example.

I don't think it would be that big of a deal. Anyone who has that sort of view knows to shut up around me anyway. Not because I hit them - I'm not going to try and sell myself as some sort of badass violent left wing **** - just because if they say something stupid I will spend 2 hours verbally tearing them a new asshole. Just the other day I stopped a friend from voting ProNRW (the local radical right wing party) by smashing him into the ground in the most aggressive, snide and sarcastic way possible.

But anyway, as long as she keeps quiet about politics I don't care. I don't discuss politics with girlfriends anyway. I can have a shouting match with a male friend and 2 hours later we will be drinking beers and playing games together like nothing ever happened, but most people here probably know how I can be and why women are generally more sensitive to the ugly sides of my personality.
I have no idea who you are or how you can be, but how did you dissuade your friend that sounds interesting?

How on EARTH is that off topic?

It's not that it's impossible, it's that a Nazi is a no brainer example. What kind of person would you have to be in order to self identify as a Nazi? Think about it. Now think about whether or not you'd want to keep dating that.

Shared values is probably the single most important thing you can have in a relationship, apart from the (essential) bare minimum level of physical attraction. You can TRY to date someone whose values you loathe, but I guarantee you'll be on the fast track to an ugly breakup.

So...no. As per your question, I could NOT date someone whose views I strongly disapproved of. It would lead to a lack of respect, which would lead to the end of the relationship. I could date someone whose views I didn't SHARE, but I'd need to at least respect and understand them. That does not, alas, apply to Nazis.

It depends on whether it was something we could agree to disagree on or not.
But I generally find out this kind of stuff before getting into a relationship with someone.

Not that me and boyfriend talk about politics much, but I think we agree on the basics of most things. I don't think you have to agree with your partner all the time but if you both believe very strongly in opposite things it could be a bit of a headache.

I'm fairly tolerant of other people's political beliefs, even if I do like a friendly debate, but if someone was a die-hard racist, sexist or homophobic then that would cross the line for what I'd accept in a potential partner. If someone didn't share my core belief that all people should be treated for their merits and deeds, rather than appearance or sexual preference, then I'd have no wish to share my life with them.

Wos a tiny bit off topic cos you did not say how you would react to the situation, just criticised my example but Cool story brah!!

Hey if you don't like my example, make one yourself then I will edit it into the OP for you, how does that sound?
As for me I'm still not sure, depends how many common interests we share.

Well, yesterday we had the local elections, so 2 days ago me and 2 friends were just chilling in a Skype call when the topic came up. I asked them if they were going to vote and if so who for, and Sykez (thats what he calls himself online, I'm not gonna share his real name on here) answered pro-NRW.

So after 2 minutes of me shouting WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK SYKEZ I got round to asking him why, and he said some really stupid shit about immigrants, gay people, taxes and pretty much all political parties. Cue me ranting on about why his reasoning was fucking backward for one hour while throwing in sarcastic jabs at him, Pro-NRW and right wing radicals and we had it. I had convinced him he was wrong on every single issue. The next day we went voting together and he voted for the liberal party. Not the one I voted for, but I can see why he did and hey, its not Pro-NRW.

(Just to give you an idea of how ridiculous the Pro-NRW party is - they hung up posters all over the place proudly proclaiming they wanted to bring back the Deutsche Mark and banish the Euro from NRW, because hey, thats going to be real fucking beneficial in the industrial motor of a country that lives off exporting goods, and another one proclaiming they wanted to straight out tear down every Mosque. I'm no big fan of religion, especially Islam and its followers, but that seems a tad too radical to me.

Theres also a rather amusing picture of Markus Beisicht, a politician belonging to the party sharing his thoughts on twitter. Its in German so I wont post it here, I will just give you the gist -

1 hour before the results were in - "Today is the day we jump over the 5% barrier with bravour, my friends! Only one more hour!"

1 hour after the results were in (They fell way short of the 5%) - "These elections must be rigged! Be assured, we WILL investigate this, and those responsible for this will be punished."

Yeah, LOL. Anyway, I'm gonna stop rambling now. Jesus, look how much I have written.)
HaHa yeah good one :)
Islam isnt to bad though, some Muslims are genuinely peaceful people, the terrorists give them a bad rap. And the God of the old testament happens to be a bit of an asshole, his hobbies include wiping humanity off the face of the earth with a flood (even babies), watching sacrifices with his friends and killing Job his loyal follower's kids for the lolz. Don't dislike the people though. Most are probably ok.

If they were generally prejudiced and/or conservative to a certain extent, I think I?d know about it and I wouldn?t even get into a relationship with them in the first place. If, somehow, I did and only stumbled upon on it later down the line, I?d assess the situation, see if it?d get in the way, or decide when the time comes. I honestly can?t say yes or no, since I haven?t even had a proper relationship yet.

Probably just disillusioned. I don't like this line of thinking you're suggesting, where apparently every Neo-Nazi is some soulless monster. That's far too simplistic and lazy.

Well, the thing is when you live in NRW, that isn't really the case. The whole "Most Muslims are tolerant and peaceful" thing? Absolute bloody bullshit. Take this from a guy who lived in the Turkish part of town for 2 years as a kid, went to school in part of a city that has the third highest crime rate in the whole state (and of course a shit load of immigrants) and who's mother works in the aforementioned Turkish part of town in daycare.

etc. etc.
Couldn't have anything to do with the fact that they're poor immigrants? Oh of course not, it's their faith that's the issue.
