what in your opinion is the best gun ever made? (gun, as in one you can carry... dont say minigun)

A good gun, but hardly the "best ever made", it had, and has a lot of issues.

Mauser k98 and Lee Enfield go to war on this. Mauser is more powerful, perhaps more accurate, but the Enfield is much easier and quicker to use and the "mad minute" obliterated thousands of k98 armed Germans who didn't even have time to load their rifles. If we look at service length, the Lee Enfield series is a winner. For me it is. It was used everywhere against pretty much everyone.

The AK(m)-47 is a good contender, but it hasn't won a war since Vietnam (exept against itself). The M-16 was a troubled young case, so not that either.

Winchester Model 1894 Rifle.

Apart from being the 'Gun that won the West' it's physically impossible not to look cool when firing it.

Well, that's how the west was conquered. But that lever action, no matter how cool, was flawed. I've got an M1894 in 7,62x53R, and it's good alright, but the Lee Enfield mk. 1 will shoot rings around it.

I digress. In all honesty, I like the FN-P90. A good, solid gun. Small, yet versatile. A good sidearm would have to be the 1911 a1. When you absolutely need a hard-ass gun, get that.

Eh for my money I guess it is the M1 Carbine. It is semi-auto so you get accuracy and rate of fire. Plus, it looks fantastic!

Another vote for the SAA here. Revolvers just have that coolness as air of class about them, and the SSA just stands out.

OK, here goes...

Assault Rifle: I would have to go with the AK. The damned thing can be buried in mud for a month and still fire. Although, it's not too accurate past the first round.

Shotgun: USAS 12. Nothing like 12 rounds of full auto 12 guage to send a message.

SMG or PDW: Either the ubiquitous H&K MP5 because of reliability, or the FNP90 for pure penetrative ability.

Handgun: The Fabrique Nationale Five seveN. I own one and DAMN it's accurate. I can plink bottle caps at 50 yards! Not to mention the recoil is like a .22. Every expert I have talked to says that it is the finest handgun made, and I have to agree.
