Oh. Well that's less exciting, then. Though, I have seen a paint mine--it's something some of my friends cooked up. It's impromptu, only works every once in a while, and you have to hit it to get it to work, but it shoots out like 15 paintballs in a circle-spray pattern. Fun to watch, but still impractical anywhere but private shennanigan matches.
Like a claymore? It wouldn't be hard to set it up to a (expensive) laser device that activates when the sensor is blocked.
But that's the problem--the word expensive. We're fiddly college students who know a bit of mechanics, some engineering, and have a limited supply fund. Besides, we just throw them into big groups from in trees. We have three prototype mines, all of which are buggy as hell, but are fun every now and again.
How about a trip wire that sets a spray at mid height? I imagine that would only need a long horizontal line to work, and it would probably go on at the slightest breeze. Also it would have to be in the middle of the ground so mark it with 'free candy' or something.

This is getting off topic. Animal translator, find out what those dolphins are saying about us.

You know that movie Gamer that's coming out?

That, except you're controlling yourself and you don't die... but you can still feel the bullets. Also, nothing that hurts like real bullets, I mean like FPS Vests kind of stuff.

SimStims, virtual reality, holodecks, The Matrix. Whatever...

Something where I can own my own DOOM FORTRESS!
Yeah, this, except instead of a doom fortress, I want my own cult. And I could write my own virtual one.

The icontact. An integrated HUD and camera for a computer elsewhere (like your phone) in your prescription contact lenses.
So awesome...

Something that allows me to stab someone through the internet. It would come in handy.

its a bit dull but I want a device that finds things you've lost! The number of times I've searched everywhere for something...

Dude. TIME MACHINES. WHY HASN'T ANYONE SAID TIME MACHINES.

What about paradoxes?
Because none of us are Colonel Campbell.
I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-Kiri Rock. I need scissors! 61!

I'd say any invention that has already been invented.

Seeing as you can't really wait for something that already exists. You could be waiting to own it, but its already here.

The Holodeck. I would never step foot in real life ever again.
The Holodeck will be humankind's last invention. A century or so later we will be extinct.

A lightsaber, it doesn't burn though. Kind of like a highly magnetic plasma beam that forces everything else away, when it touches them.

Also a novelty t-shirt that updates its self.

Jet packs, flying cars, zero-point generators, wormhole-based teleporters, the hyperdrive, hyperspace communication, bionic limb/organ replacements, rejuvenation chambers, industrial nanopaste, matter-energy converters, terraforming, universal translator and mind/machine interfaces.

I can see myself able to live without the invention of the Stellar Converter, Phasing Cloak and Time-warp Facilitator.
