What is a science fiction universe that you would like to live in?

Star Trek. Just don't join Starfleet. Take a civilian job almost anywhere in the Alpha Quadrant, and your life expectancy and quality will be far better than anything you could have presently. Free holodeck, other cultures to mingle with, lots of interesting reports about the greater galaxy sent by the explorer ships from a nice safe distance.

Though Trek Earth has been invaded and damaged a few times, it's probably the most secure capital planet in any sci-fi. Any time it actually changes hands, someone changes the timeline to prevent it. Compare to Coruscant, which has been besieged, razed, and/or occupied more times than can be remembered.

Ooo I'd love to live in the Mass Effect one, but those Reapers man.
I'd live in mass effect with 3 caveats.

1) post-reaper invasion with the relays repaired and the destroy ending (and the catalyst was lying about the whole "all synthetics get destroyed" bit, because that'd be.... bad, if he was truthful).

2) I am educated with all of the knowledge to be able to function in their society and their equivalent of my degrees (as I can imagine a modern high-school education is covered by 5th grade at that point, let alone a modern undergrad)

3) I'm not just plopped in but have some resources to work with, like say an entry-level position somewhere and food money.

I will then proceed to befriend and/or bang as many aliens as I can.

All the sci-fi's I'm into are distopian future worlds, so absolutely none of them. Otherwise I'd be living a pretty bleak existence.

All of them, at once. So the chaos could truly shine, especially when the warped ass-physics of lame Sci-Fi hacks collides with higher quality sci-fi. Mind-bogglingly maddening.

Another vote for the Culture. Who wouldn't want to live in a post-scarcity, post-work society, where nearly any whim or desire can be fulfilled simply by asking?

Star trek easily, no more wars on earth, no hunger, money or anything. It's a perfect future except you know when you try to explore the universe and borgs destroy you but atleast it's heaven on earth.

ALMOST FORGOT, THERE ARE HOLODECKS ASWELL, what i wouldn't give for a functioning holodeck

Barkley has to worry that he spends too much time mucking about on the Holodeck.
There's a "first world problems" joke in there, I just can't think of it.
