it doesn't apply to every situation of course, but i'm rather fond of 'damage over time' and 'heal over time' effects, rather than direct damage or direct healing. especially if the effects stack.

FPS multiplayer:
If camping, when someone figures you out and kills you, camp that spot one more time and die before moving to a new spot. This new spot should have a view of your old spot because it's likely someone will go looking for another kill from you. Boom.
I personally love it when I'm camping in CoD and someone figures out my spot and goes after me, because I tend to run claymores + scavenger. Comedy!

Let's talk Starcraft overall. I'm not too big on some or lots of the special units. Jack don't like the passive-aggressives at all. I prefer monstrous destruction on occasions like this. For instance...the three favorite Zerg units I work with are Hydralisks, Mutalisks, and Lurkers.

Hydralisks - They're versatile, attacking land and air.

Mutalisks - Much like Hydralisks, but they're also flying.

Lurkers - Just so damn cool, AND useful.

Rather than using some of my resources on Defilers, Zerglings, and usually even Queens...I like to use these guys in bulk amounts. There is a Holy Shit factor in the concentrated fire of ANY of those three, murdering the hell out of things. So basically... Take effective unit, multiply it a few times, point at target, kill target.

in shooters, Hit and run like a *****,
in RPG's with a level based system, level up until I'm ridiculously more powerful than the enemy and take a stroll down easy street.

In bad company two I often use RDX to clear away trees and other sources of cover, down my firing lane.

Black Ops:

Help everyone ever. I get more fun out of helping people than I do killing people. Either by being the point man...

(Blops players should know this:
Two guys inc. you.
Choke point.
"What's on the other side?"
Only one of you is willing to find out for fear of having to respawn/lose your killstreak)

Or by charging into enemy fire to let some absolute randomer survive.

When I get sick of that, I become a speed demon. Super lightweight with unlimited sprint and plenty of stabbing!

In RTS games: Beat numbers with equipment and placement.
In FPS games: Pick away at the enemy one at a time.
In RPG games: Make friends, rob them blind.

Fighting Games - Mash buttons and hope it works

Adventure Games - Find one move that works, repeat until end credits

RTS - Build an air force large enough to blot out the sun. If that doesn't work, build an army of tanks so large that by the time my lead tank is hitting their base defenses, the last tank is just leaving my base. (Read as: You can't stop them all!)

FPS - Open Fire. Reload.

Stealth - Sit in the corner and laugh as the guards try desperately to find me. When they go to leave, give them a quick bop across the head.

Sneak, snipe, repeat. This applies to all games that have long range weapons of any sort and where sneakiness is viable.

I tend to stick with what works. If it doesn't, then I'll adopt new tactics accordingly.

When I play British on Company of Heroes on a victory point game I often grab a couple points as soon as possible and set up a pretty basic defensive line, with a bunch of trenches MG's and whatnot.
When the engineers arrive I get them to build a heavy emplacement or two to support the infantry in the trenches and build artillery behind them, which hammers incoming attackers as needed. Basically a pretty standard defence.
When tanks are available I have a few of them support the infantry as they leave the trenches and slowly creep forwards closer to the enemy base, digging more trenches as they go while the engineers tear down their old gun emplacements and build them closer to the new line.
Eventually you'll have an unescapable noose around the enemy base and your artillery should be close enough to continuously pound it, so an incoming attack while be taken apart before it even gets to you, and if it does the AT guns and entrenched infantry will clean em up.

I remember one time a few minutes after beating back a big attack on one of my victory points I immediately took down all my emplacements and stuff and rebuilt them at the edge of my opponents base. The next time he attacked his tanks were shredded by the newly created artillery and AT guns while the infantry were mopped up with my own tanks and infantry in newly dug trenches.
He started saying "WTF!?" repeatedly for a while before leaving the game.
Ahhh...fun times...

As for shooters I dunno.
Aim for the face I guess?

Pretend that I haven't played the game in a while so that I have an excuse when I lose to my friend.

1: get biggest gun
2: practice against bots often at their highest setting
3: walk into enemy base, murder everything there with big gun

used to do this in War Rock (before it started to REALLY suck and before I moved on) just grab my minigun, walk into enemy base, fire in short burst to ensure accuracy (headshots) laugh at entire team that just got murdered with most inaccurate weapon in game.

now i just settle for long range burst shots from my SMG in BF:BC2. the rage by people when you are quite a ways off and shoot them in the head with an SMG is priceless.

or running people over. that's fun too.

Kiting. Zelda, I always use the bow. When I played Wow I played a hunter (ranged class. Minecraft, I make sure I always have arrows.

I can do melee, but when it can be done from range, why risk it?

In RTS, fortify my base like crazy, and slowly move forward, building more and more. And I have at all times three task forces ready, which are always 1. Air (if allowed)/ Quick moving Infantry (jet packs, scouts ect.) 2. Mechanized infantry. Infantry with transports and light armor. 3. Tanks. Tanks. Tanks. Tanks. TAAAAAAAAAAANKS!

These task forces will jab forwards, knocking out key enemy positions. Like, for example, Dawn of War. The enemy had some anti tank units, so I sent task force 1 out to snipe the shit out of them, then sent task force 3 out to crush their base.
