Well there is "what is hell like" thread and i started thinking about heaven. It's always taken that heaven is this great place. but sometimes i wonder. i mean carnal desires are sinful so no sex. Gods light keeps it super safe so it's planet nerf with no risk. And if it's giant church in which we spend all day worshiping the god that is right there i dunno if i would consider that heaven.

All i know is, if heaven doesn't have a personal holodeck and a fast internet connection i dunno if it's as great as it's made out to be.

EDIT; Okay for the purposes of this exercise we are going to assume it exists.

***okay these captchas with the 5 degree rotated shadow behind a word have to stop, looking at them is giving me a headache.

I think this is better suited for 'Religion and Politics', but whatever.
So, I guess it'll be safe to assume that your're a Christian then?

Never really heard someone come up with this theory, and it's very interesting, I must say.
In my eyes, as an atheist, I believe heaven to be those amazing moments in life. Those rare moments where you can forget about all your problems and just feel happy.

In my eyes, hell&heaven are inside of us(Y).

According to the Bible it's just a place where you sit around and praise heroes and everything, it seems kinda boring IMO.

To me though it's any place that lets good shine.

Reminds me of something I told my brother: "It's pretty funny that when people think about what heaven is like, they imagine that they'll get to do all the things they had to abstain from in order to get there."

Code:
GAME OVER

Play Again?

That'd be great. :D
But if not, I hope it's sorta like life. Because I couldn't comprehend anything else.

Heaven would be hell to me because of all the smug christians that would love to shove my atheism in my face. Which... makes it rather weird for me to be in heaven to begin with but whatev... hypothetical case and all that.

It's full of unicorns and fluffy bunnies.

But nahh seriously I think it's your own personal heaven, with whatever you loved in life eternally represented in death, and you'd just be blissful and content all the time.

I had a lot of theories over the years of what heaven could be like.
One of my favs was always that, if we are truly created in god's image and likeness, maybe our creativity is then free from the boundaries of matter and we get to design our own universe. You know, like a big ultra map editor. Or minecraft with good graphics :D

Well, parts of the Bible explain it as this earth without any bad. It is also described as being able to be with God. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I'm just starting to learn myself.

There is two answers for this: 1) The streets paved with gold and lots of angles and prasing God. 2) The Bible clearly stated that Jesus goes to prepare a place for us and that "in my Father's house there are many rooms". I like the approach that says it's whatever you want it to be. The best games? Done. Tasty chow? No problem. Hot Babes? There they are, in any shade, form or flavor you can think of.

Didn't seem overtly Christian to me (if anything he was taking the piss).

OT: Don't know why, but I've always envisioned heaven as being a fuck-off massive library... (where I'm greeted at the entrance by my late first girlfriend and finally get the chance to apologise to her... *sigh*)

I subscribe to the reincarnation tradition and karmic inheritance. If you're nice and enlightened, you are reborn as an influential person. If you're an asshole and a bigot, you are reborn as a blade of grass in a manure farm.

What if ascending to heaven in the Christian sense also means discarding your human desires and needs? As well as original sin, of course. Then perhaps the rewards promised are deeper and more fulfilling as opposed to instant gratification in the baser sense. Perhaps the final reward is transcending the human condition?

Heaven [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/comics/stolen-pixels/8286-Stolen-Pixels-241-The-Gaming-Afterlife] is where the stories are written by Obsidian, the dialog written by Bioware, the cutscenes are designed by Square Enix, QA is performed by Valve, and the release schedule is set by Capcom.

Seriously though, the best summary I ever heard was from the pastor of the church I went to as a kid: "heaven is an eternity of saying 'thou'; hell is an eternity of saying 'me'."

This, this, this. The whole point of practicing discipline and self-mastery in this life is so we can be happy in the next.

I will never know because I will never apologise for anything I've done so even if it exists, I will never go there. And I hope it doesn't because Hell doesn't sound very fun. If it does though, there had better be videogames. And cake.
