A fun experience. Story can make a fun experience, but so can gameplay, or voice-acting, or graphics.

No dick moves, i.e. like ZP:~ you find a key and try it on one of two locked doors, the wrong door breaks the key and there's no way to know which door is the right one.

It needs too clearly separate what you need to do (boss key) and what is bonuses (Easter eggs).

Low "deus ex machina"-rate (preferably zero).

If there are difficulty settings: the easiest should be really easy and the hardest should be really hard.

An open world can really make a game good for me, I stopped playing Final Fantasy XIII just before the end and I really can't get back into it because after putting me through over 20 hours walking in a straight line, then finally opening up the world and letting me free roam and then putting me straight back to walking in a straight line again I just got fed up.

Other than that though a good story, characterization and atmosphere. (Just to use Final Fantasy as an example again) I didn't really consider Final Fantasy VII to have great gameplay, I could breeze through it with the minimum of strategy, but the story made up for that really.

For me it has to wow me with something awesome I've never seen before, and it has to be done WELL. Thats why God of War 3 made my head explode from the sheer awesome.

I really like a good creative set-piece too.

A good or fun story. But I can also enjoy a serious story. The problem is that most companies suck at making serious stories and the game just ends up so predictable and boring.

Then gameplay. Fun gameplay is always nice. And if there's something I don't care about in games it's the graphics.

I like a lot of little sidequests, preferably those with decent rewards.
On the contrary, I like games that don't slide from the main story/ gameplay, unless for good reason. I prefer my games short but sweet, not dragged out.

Lots of things.

Graphics can be integeral to gameplay, and immersion.

Story can be importasnt, or in the case of more sandbox games the feeling that you're making your own story (i.e total war).

Good graphics for good graphics sake is nice, but not if its to the detriment of the rest of the game. That said it's unusual that better graphics wouldnt improve a game, just in many cases the inprovment wouldnt be that big.

Gameplay, as long as it plays good and it's fun, i can deal with a crappy story, graphics etc.
Though it depends on the game, with MGS 4 i knew i had to be very very patient with all the cutscenes.
But mostly it's about fun for me, like games should be.
Plain fun.

Good gameplay, good story, good multiplayer where everyone in the end can be sort of equal in skill and ok graphics

fun above all its fun. diferent games achieve that through diferent means, but if its entertaining and hooks me in, then I like it.

Good, solid characterisation. A likeable protagonist and antagonist are rare, so I always enjoy a game that executes it well.

For me it has to be story followed by controls, if a game has bad graphics but a great plot and a well thought out control system I'd rather spend 100 hours playing it compared to a great looking game with little story and stupid control system.

(I won't name the game but if you've ever had to go through 4 menus to optimise for battle you've played it as well).
Final Fantasy VIII?

For me, having fun can be enough. 007: Nightfire doesn't have a great story or graphics but it's really fun in Multiplayer, whether with friends or bots. That alone makes me keep playing it.

But sometimes, a good story can pull me through a game even if the gameplay is lacking a little.
