Ok so this got me thinking

Pink is an ugly colour, yeah ok thats subjective, but still I think pink is friggen ugly

and think about it, look around you where ever you are, how much pink do you see? probably not much, how much pink does somone see in their day to day lives? in art, or boxart or the colurs of somones house...

not much, I think thats because pink in its purest form hardly goes with anything, its just a plain ugly colour, and other than baby nurserys or anything that is used to very clearly indicate one's femininity you dont really see it often

except as I just said theres this thing with girls and pink, some girls have their bedrooms full of pink, or even older girls, their iphones, laptops what ever its all pink

why is this? do they really like pink?

or.....

have they been BRAINWASHED by society into thinking they like pink?

ok yeah I know thats stupid, but anyway It just came to me one day that that the only way anyone could think pink looked good if society seriously drilled it into their heads when they were young

because lets face it most of the time this stuff is encouraged from avery young age, anyway do oyu think you could get the same effect if we switched things, blue is the traditional colur for girls and pink being the traditional color for boys? I think so

or am I just over thinkign things?

You just answered yourself.

Maybe society has brain washed YOU to hate pink.

There's certainly strong evidence of social conditioning, given that pink has not always been the colour associated with girls; until the turn of the 20th century, it tended to be blue in Western society.

What exactly is pink "in its purest form"? I'm legitimately curious. Is it a hot pink? Pastel?

I like Pink, but I like many colors. Plus, I think Pink looks exceptionally well with black. Like, my shoes are currently black flats with neon pink tribal/vine-like design and the bottom of the shoe is pink as well. I find it adorable.

So, maybe I'm brainwashed, but I'm kind of okay with it. I smiled when I bought these shoes.

On a more serious note, I think the color is symbolic to feminism and a lot of women like to feel feminine.

BUT, you may be, as you said, over thinking it. No one has a reason for liking a color. Girl or Guy, it's a fun color.

Until recently pink was associated with boys and blue was associated with girls...

So as for your question "What is it with girls and pink?" - Not much really.

Interestingly, a couple of centuries ago, at least in Britain, the 'gendering' of colours was completely inverted. Little girls dressed in blue, little boys in pink.

So yes, it does work, and it has worked in the past. Like most gendering practices, it's kind of arbitrary.

Really? I didn't hadn't heard that. Wonder why they changed.

But yeah, based on arbitrary gender roles.

Some people like the colour, others don't. But it definately is seen as something feminine, but not strictly. I've seen guys wear pink on many occasions and nobody stops to call him a girl.

I can remember mucking around with friends in a supermarket, running away from girls toys and anything pink like it was a plague. I would stop every now and then and think, "wait.... why am I doing this? What's so scary about pink?"

Pink is my new expression, it's not even a question.

What exactly is 'purest form' pink anyhow? The stereotype you're describing is usually with hot pink, the really bright and intense pink, which would be like saying that 'pure green' is neon green.

I don't know quite how many girls you know and have seen their bedrooms but you might be being taken in by media portrayals. Pink, since the turn of the century, has been 'the' default colour for girls, and so an easy shorthand to show that a female character is a girly girl and associates with feminine stereotypes in the media is to show them with a pink room or pink phone etc.

I don't know many girls who are legitimately crazy for pink. One or two might have something which just happens to be pink, but it's just a colour they like in the same way that I might have something in white. Sometimes it can also be hard to get phones in particular in different colours, due to stocking issues or the phone just not being available in another colour.

And the reason guys don't have pink is because of the aforementioned stereotype of girls liking pink. If the media wasn't so 'real men don't wear pink' all the time, you probably wouldn't be so militant against it. I mean come on man, you're complaining about a colour here.

It's Parents and Peers. Most girls are given stuff to play with or clothes that are pink, and having pink as a baby makes them grow a fondness to it. Many boys generally don't like it just because their peers would mock them because pink is usualy generalized as "Femenistic". We are slowly growing out of that stage. Similar to this, i think many boys like sports because they've always been with their dad, growing a fondness to sports, and then that fondness gets spread with their peers, so it starts a chain. My brother favors my dad who likes hockey, thus, my brother likes hockey. I favor my mother, thus i favor... whatever she favors... actually, i don't know what she likes, but i share the same humor.
