Now I'm n to talking about the Escapist. We're somewhat okay, with spoiler tags and the such. However, I was just browsing the Nier soundtrack on youtube, first time through the game, thoroughly enjoying it, and then...
People start talking about Yonah dying in the comments. Apparently it's not a spoiler because you see her die in the start of the game, 1000 fucking years ago. No warning, just "SHE DIES LULZ".
Then even the titles of the damn songs. "Emil's sacrifice". Great. Thanks for that. No spoiler warning in the title? No? Okay, sure, that's cool. Oh, what's this? A related video of Popola and Devola dying? FANTASTIC. JUST WHAT I FUCKING WANTED.
Anyway, rant over, why do people no longer care about not spoiling things? It seems like it'd be pretty easy to type "spoiler warning" before a post, or in a title, but nope. Someone explain?

I thought Youtube commenters were notorious assholes, to begin with. There's no real quality control there, and some people just don't think about it when they should.

I don't really get this whole "spoiler" thing ... I don't really care if I'm told that someone is going to die, because I will find out one way or another.

The way I see it, I like the surprise. So many deaths, or reveals in not only games, but books or films have such larger effects if you don't expect them. If you do, you'll spend the entire thing expecting a character to die, etc and have no time to get attached or notice other character traits because you'll be wondering "maybe they'll die now..."
But that's just me.

Youtube comments are the worst humanity has to offer about the internet. I wouldn't expect much grace from that site

this.
i don't get it either. I got spoiled for the end of Watchmen (didn't read the graphic novel before watching the movie) by someone. Does that mean i didn't enjoy the movie? No, i still enjoyed it, even when the spoilered scene came up i was like "Woah!"

Reading your post, all I can think of is "How the fuck did that game end?". Honestly having trouble remembering.

You mentioning the song names as spoilers reminds me of the book "The Children Of Hurin". The names of every chapter actually spoils the chapter itself, telling you someone dies, somethign happens, or when a battle is lost before it is. It is a pain in the ass, and the developers really should keep it in check.

But... half the appeal of a story is the shock. Imagine:

Knowing that Ned was going to die at the end.

Knowing that Wheatley was going to be evil from the start.

Knowing that Kerrigan was going to be cured.

And do you want to know my proof that all these would be worse if you knew?

Because I knew all of them, through the internet's failure to spoiler. And it definitely took away from the experience - not enough to ruin them, but it worsened it. Half-Life 2 was nowhere near as exciting the second time I played through.

But yeah, I almost always spoiler-tag things - it's just obnoxious not to.
He dies? ... huh ... what is it with the author's desire to kill every last of his better characters? But in a way I kind of suspected he was gonna die, since he and the blonde assholes didn't get along very well ...

People just seem to assume that once they've played the game, everyone has. I really hate it, story is one of the main things that makes me enjoy a game. Otherwise, you're just going through the motions.

Spoiler tags, please? ;)
Well I didn't say who [Actually I did but I edited it, sorry] It could have been
Weathley, Tychus, Raynor, or someone else. Plus Game of Thrones already has a lot of people dying, so it's no surprise to anyone that an extra head is gonna row
anyone, really.

Maybe they just assume the topic is common knowledge? Like when a movie reaches a certain age most people who care have already seen it and if it becomes popular enough then it will get parodied to death. So you are bound to find the plot twist one way or another, even if you weren't looking into that specific movie.

I think games behave the same way, except that instead of fifty to thirty year old movies, it can happen as quickly as a year old game. It might just come under the assumption that anyone who cares has already played it and if they don't then they won't care if it is spoiled.

I know that at least for a week or two after release spoilers for new games are pretty well contained, but even after a month they start leaking faster and faster.

Just what I have seen at least, might depend where particularly you are looking. I never visit the forums until I have completed a game or have technical problems.

Does it really matter if I'm gonna get shocked now or later? ... at this point I'm getting a lot of rage so I might as well make a fool of myself

Context is everything. Having an entire book/film building up these characters so you know them makes the spoiler impactful. Books and films aren't just a series of unrelated events, there's a clear act structure, an arc. I tell you know that John dies. Not even gonna say what the story is. Do you care? Of course not, you don't know anything about this character you've never heard of. And if you do get around to seeing the story, that knowledge is always at the back of your mind, so you've already steeled yourself.

I think everyone should respect others when it comes to possible spoilers. Just because its no biggie to you, doesn't mean there isn't someone reading/watching/interacting etc. with the media that wants to be surprised. If you're about to give away some kind of information about a story plot, be kind enough to give a spoiler warning.

But in other news, I actually don't know how to do those cool "spoiler" tags on this website. You know, when you have to click the box to see what's up. I think its such a great tool, and I wish more websites did that ... but damn if I knew how to do it myself. LOL =P

EDIT: My captcha was hard as fuck. I almost failed. In fact, I did fail. It looked like an ad for Dish Network, and gave me no clue as to what the hell I was supposed to write. I had to submit to the listening captcha instead. Fucking captcha.

Whatever you do, don't look up the RDR soundtrack until you've finished the game.

Comments are full of people saying:
RIP John Marston.

Honestly it baffles me why anyone comments on youtube. Even if your post isn't completely retarded, no-one intelligent is going to see it.

Because people like to share great moments, and keeping secrets is really hard and painful.

Just human nature I suppose.

P.S. The Butler did it.
