I like the Welsh accent, I'm from Wales!

Well, I technically have Welsh, Scottish and English roots, but I've grown up in Wales.
Yeah but even in Wales there's loads of accents and it gets really annoying especially having grown up in Barry what with Gavin and Stacy as everyone expects me to sound like that!

I agree with this.. Much more fun to listen to than British..

Most British accents in my mind sounds like some stuck up snot snob teen throwing a fit tantrum.
But there are some exceptions, dialects farther to the north, closer to Scotland, they sound bit better..

Considering just how many different accents there are in Britain, this question is relatively meaningless, except to raise the question of what recording examples of all known accents from Britain and digitally collating them into one voice would sound like.
Way to be helpful dude.

I'm not sure what it is either, an English accent just seems to be well received by quite a few other cultures.

First, it is new an interesting - always a plus.

More importantly, there is a sense that the British way of saying something is the proper way of saying it. Anything said in such an accent tends to gain a degree of gravitas that actual content of the discussion might not merit.

Im from the West Midlands and I dont really considering myself having a strong accent.

But my swedish friend on skype and people from different countries I speak to are like "OMG ENGLISH ACCENT" and just talk about it too much x_x

Personally, I like david tennants accent and stephen fry`s accent, but personally I prefer accents from Australia, Jamaica and Ireland to be more fun to listen to.

This thread needs more sound clips.

There are a lot of British accents that I don't like. I'm Scottish, but my accent isn't very strong at all. I hate strong accents from anywhere, really.

People judge personality traits, justly or unjustly, based on how people speak. It's a subconscious thing. So, I guess something about the London accent sounds softer, or warmer than the American accents she might be used to, or at the very least it's telling her, "the way this guy speaks leads me to believe he has qualities I find attractive," maybe because it's associated with a positive stereotype of the pommies. I don't know, but that us how I have always interpreted the accent = sexy thing.

I'm from the north so my accent is like Christopher Ecclestones (Doctor Who), which sounds normal to me :)

British Accents are hands down my favourite in the world.

I love listening to their accent, Primeval did it for me! Now there does seem to be a fair bit of love for the Austrailian accent which I half understand.

It does get a little annoying, when you have - your girlfriends sisters friends - 13 year old girls going "awwww how cute is his accent!"
Now that'd be awesome xD
It really isn't. ANOTHER one of her friends did it earlier. It doesnt end...
Haha, it sounds as if its a life issue. To tell the truth, I love the attention. xP
Ah well it sounds like you're being treated like a puppy or something >.> Maybe not so good after all!
LOL! Come to think of it, she does treat her puppy like that! Poor thing, I always wonder what its thinking when I see her with it... lol

But hey, at least you're not prejudice!

OT: Can we just clear this up for the people who will insist on saying that a British accent could be any one of thousands (like every other country, I might add):

Most of the time, they're talking about an English accent without any strong distinction to the region of the country. Not everyone's got a regional accent thicker than Katie Price.

True, that accent sounds far more valleys orientated to me... Wow, you come from literally 10 minutes away from me. Odd.

People like my British accent, even though it's a bit weird. It's a mixture of my family who were all born "oop north" and my being born down near the South. Bit odd.

Not sure if Americans prefer it or not, I think at the end of the day it comes down to the individual themselves :)

Have to say though, love an American accent ^^

I'm from Yorkshire, so I'm not proud of my accent. Whenever I talk to people from places like London, they act like I have an IQ of around 70 because I talk like a farmer from 'up north'.
southerners think they're better than everyone else, we should lead a civil war against them and their pompous ways!

It sounds a lot better than american accents.
let's face it. Americans and many Canadians sound horrible. It is very harsh and annoying.
many other accents are more soothing and nicer to listen to.

So my girlfriends American friends always tell me how cute my British accent is (even though it isn't a "stereotypical" Londoner's accent), but I was just wondering what it is that American girls find so attractive about them...

Interesting and creative comments welcome^^
Just to give another spin on the perspective, speaking as a guy, my IQ drops a good few points when I'm talking to a British lady. There's just something about it that's so soothing. My girlfriend is from South Yorkshire and I could just listen to her talk for hours on end about absolutely nothing to hear that sublime accent of hers.

On the flip side, I visited her the past summer and her friends melted over my Canadian accent. They just found it drop dead sexy for some reason, to the point where we had ended up going to a birthday party and thhe birthday girl had me saying just about anything to her to hear me speak for ten minutes straight. Eventually someone had to tell her I wasn't a toy to get her to stop.

Really, it works either way. I'm not sure why, but some mysteries are better left unsolved as not to ruin their benefits.

I could listen to Stephen Fry read the back of cereal boxes for hours.

I love British accents.
I watch Jeeves and Wooster, mostly just to listen to Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie's banter (although there's not TOO much banter, since Jeeves is a very good Man's man).
