Love = Like + Lust + Trust.

Yay! First.

Ahem, anyway, that was how my spouse described love when we first started dating.

Did you need more than that? I can expand on the theory, if you like.
Can I just say, that's an awesome definition.

I doubt there's a better way to define it in so few words.

So I guess I'm seconding your answer.

Baby Don't Hurt Me! Don't Hurt Me no more

actual answer: A system of chemicals and impulses in the brain that cause a feeling of close intimacy.

OT:
It's lust and trust combined together.
You forgot Like. It's hard to maintain a relationship without friendship.

Thanks! ^^

As I said, it isn't mine, but every time anyone asks me this, I quote that formula.

I love my cat unconditionally, but i don't trust him!
And if your love was plutonic, it wouldn't feature lust, so your left with ' like', and that covers a lot of ground.

Love is a symbiotic relationship with another person that weakens you if they ain't there. Whether you refer to it as symbiotic or merely parasitic depends on whether your partner's nice. Which 90% of the time they're not.

Me? For me it means there's one person in the world I couldn't kill even if they were charging at me with a knife.

And that's one too many.

So no. I'm not in love, and hopefully I'll never be dumb/naive enough to let myself be in love.

To complicate the matter further, there are lots of different types of love - the love you feel for your child, your parents, your siblings, your romantic partner, your close friends, your pets, pie etc. are all a bit different.

My advice - don't worry too much about it, you'll know when it hits you. If it never does, then thats probably saved you a lot of heartache too.

I think the chemicals in our brain prevent us from doing that. It's natures way of trying to keep you together long enough to make babies and stuff. You can certainly LUST after more than one person, which is apparently totally acceptable. That's not love.

Overrated.

Sorry, I'm still a teen and haven't been in love yet, plus I have the mindset of a 70 year old.

Well, love is a set of chemical reactions, and that's probably it.
And in more mystical way, the True Love is probably being ready to sacrifice everything you've got just for another person's happiness, no matter if he/she will know about your 'sacrifice'. Or about you, at all.

You can't really dismiss it as "overrated" if it's never happened to you. That's like giving a movie you haven't seen bad scores just because it's popular. Seriously, I used to have that same mindset as you. I wasn't even wanting to fall in love when it happened.

Also, it is chemicals doing the work, but so is everything else you've ever done. Plus, when you're in love you don't even care.

Baby dont hurt me! Dont hurt me! No more!

OT: Love is when you literally feel agonized when you're away from said person of interest, when it aches in your teeth and heart out to your fingertips if yer apart, thats love. But I dunno, it probably differs from person to person.
