What is love
Oh baby, don't hurt me
Don't hurt me no more
Oh, baby don't hurt me
Don't hurt me no more

What is love
Yeah

Oh, I don't know why you're not there
I give you my love, but you don't care
So what is right and what is wrong
Gimme a sign

____

Fuck, now I've got that song stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

I... don't know.

Sure we can go on about chemical receptors in the brain and what not... but 'love' persists even after the hot passion of lust has died down. We could go on about the bonds formed between mutual existences, when we share a large part of our life with another. Also situations like that exist which don't leave to 'love' and 'love at first sight' seems to ring very true with people, more so now we are forming relationships through electronic measures and rarely know what each other look like when we start feeling a loving attraction to them.

I have no friggen clue what it is.

It just... is.

Love is a verb. Ya know, a doing word. Feathers on your breath and all that jazz~~
Also a noun meaning describing "The inability to follow rational thought; can be accompanied by physical signs of illness, introversion, and anger."
Sounds the same as anger to me.

Maybe they are more similar than we'd like to admit.

I would actually say there's two meanings to the English word love.
I have always found that particular topic lacking in that Danish characterizes two different words that love covers.

"Forelskelse" in Danish, (approx. meaning tans. "Falling in love," as in, literally "falling") the feeling you have when you have just met someone, the insane desire and inability to be apart from your love. Clinically close to a psychosis.

"Kærlighed" in Danish, (approx. meaning trans. "Stable love") is the feeling that people who has been together for a long time feel. The stable dependence and affection that holds together long-lasting (as in, decades) relationships.

Love is a very clever evolutionary construct which makes two people stay together for extended periods of time in order to take on the insurmountable task it is to raise kids.

Never the less, I find it to my liking.

Anyway--love is very similar to hate. The intensity just goes in a slightly different direction.

The opposite of love is apathy.
Incredible. You sir, are the first person, except myself, who I have heard say that. I do agree that hate is not the opposite of love, but rather love gone sour. Because when you hate someone, you still care about what that person is doing, you are just being negative about it instead of positive.

As to add to the song quotes:

"There's a thin line between love and hate
Wider divide that you can see between good and bad
There's a grey place between black and white
But everyone does have the right to choose their path that he takes"

And:
"I'll give you all I got to give if you say you'll love me too
I may not have a lot to give but what I got I'll give to you
I don't care too much for money, money can't buy me love

Can't buy me love, everybody tells me so
Can't buy me love, no no no, no"

I'll give the same answer I gave the last time a girl asked me this question.

"Love is anal fisting."

It is a myth, just flat out plain does not exist. You have a better chance of finding Elvis, Big Foot and the Loch Ness moinster playing cards in a ufo than you have of finding "love". Trust me I've been married twice, love just doesn't exist.

What is/does the definition/concept of "love" mean to you?

As always, thank you for your time and posts.
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.Love never fails."

1 Corinthians 13 v 4 - 8

That is love.

i can't explain what love is, but i can say its strength is proportional to how much you deny it.
and that empty void you feel once you've denied it enough.
and the following depression.
