Pokemon is that copy of Pokemon Pikachu Yellow lying on top of my desktop right now.

That's what Pokemon is to me.

I've probably sunk more of my life into the pokemon games and watching the show then I've spent time sleeping.

I was 8 years old when pokemon hit America, so yes, it affected my life in a big way. Or to put it more accurately pokemon WAS my life from when I was 8 until I was about 12 or 13 when I stopped watching the show, but I still played the games. Even today when I've mellowed out on pokemon a lot, I still remember all the amazing times I had with the show/games, and I hold those memories very close to my heart.

Or to put it more simply; pokemon saw a wild me, and wanted to battle. It used "mega addicting show/games series attack" and it was super effective.

Well, it's a "thing" that I'm passively interested in; if there's an article about it on site I like, I'll read it. I haven't played since the first two but I just lost interest, at least enough to actually buy a cartiage.

Personally, I just really liked the Mystery Dungeon spin-offs. Much more character development (especially in the three DS sequels) and it treats the "mons" as setient characters instead of creatures to capture and own in something that, at least to me, resembles dog fighting a little bit too much. I'm hoping a little after Black and White has been out for awhile that they make an update to the Mystery Dungeon series. I'll actually play that.

Pokemon is a treasure. I remember, my birthday when I got my GBC. I got Blue with it. I chose Squirtle. I played it until my new batteries died. We were having a garage sale and it was raining (I love the rain). I was young and new and I got stuck in a metapod VS. metapod battle. Gooooooooood times. And as long as they keep making Pokemon games I will buy and play them. And as long as I can I will cherish them until they really really really cock it up.

Pokemon is the chance to forget all the tedium of normal life, and feel what it was like to be a child again.

It's that game i enjoyed when i was 6... A lot of my friends still like it for some reason, and despite repeated attempts, i cannot get back into it.

This is possibly because when i first played the game i learned that the easiest and most powerful strategy to win is to pick one random pokemon (I picked pidgey) and use them and nothing else for the rest of the game. It never requires grinding, and will even one-hit things it's supposedly weak against. This is not fun, and my attempts at playing with a larger team have just forced me to grind up all the other pokemon every 5 minutes so that they have some small use in battles, which is even less fun.

I don't have the mentality of others that playing pokemon makes you inferior or child-like in some way, i just really can't get any enjoyment from that game anymore.

I still play it, not an enormous fan like I was, but I still think the games are solid and fun.

Nothing. I never really liked the games, seemed like mediocre rpgs. The pokemon training and progress was also quite shallow. World itself never appealed to me as well.

I'm 16. Pokemon isn't exactly the most popular thing at my school as of today but fuck it, one day everyone will realise how awesome it is again and when they do my 4 games strong team will be there waiting for them.

I can play Pokemon hours at a time.
Despite me hating turn-based combat, but the battles come and go so fast they may aswell do it Earthbound style and have the enemy explode into particles on the overworld.

It's weird that Pokemon can be legally Sold, traded, killed, and thrown away despite them being alive. Slavery anyone?

EDIT : Ok, now games constantly rewarding you for every pety action you do is not (NOT) Rewarding, since you do it all the time, and releif for finally accomplishing goals relating to this will be non-existent.
I'd spend hours grinding up my Pokemon up about 12 LVL's every bloody time I have to go to different towns. How is this fun?
The only reason why I play Pokemon is that the JRPG style has changed. It used to be full of JRPG clichue's, now it's realized how stupid and annoying it is for NPC's constantly phoning you.

Trust me, I never found Pokemon fun. But then again I've never enjoyed JRPG's.

Basically, everything wrong with today's games according to Extra Credits (Skinner box, choice-descision, etc.) wrapped in a very cheery colorful package that efficiently distracts me from life for far, far longer than it should or deserves.

For me its a once-great game franchise that has slowly been milking itself to death. I liked 1st gen, and loved 2nd gen (it was the first game for my Gameboy way back when). But while the new games are adding new features, it really feels like Nintendo is just doing it for money at this point (I'm looking at you,Platinum Version, with your barely any differentness from D/P). With regards to 5th generation, unless someone shows me a major new feature that greatly improves the game I will probably never play it, especially when I saw that many of the new Pokemon are just rehashes of old pokemon (like the grass starter basically being a pointy Treeko).

I like the feeling of catching something that's about as objectively useful as a hammer made of glass, then slowly using it, and teaching it, and watching as it evolves (literally) into a giant beast that rips through the opponent like tissue paper.
I've found there's quite a bit of strategy, in predicting moves and planning teams, though I must confess I've never been particularly good at it. XD
I like pokemon.

I've never really given it that much though. I suppose it was a way to re-explore the innocence of childhood, at least for a short time anyway. That's why I get a little (to put it mildly) irritated when I see the dark and gritty interpretations of it.
