What is the best game you have bought that you knew nothing about

The Godfather.. I bought it for 8 swedish crowns, the equivalent to 60 pence or about a dollar.. I got about 20 solid gaming hours for those 8 crowns..

I know where i need to get my games from... one dollar for The Godfather, wow... Wait was that retail or did you buy it from someone? I've never heard of Swedish crowns, they sound cool, as in not like money.


The closest I have ever come to that was Fallout 1 and 2, I have never heard anything about them really besides from older folks reminiscent about them. Turns out is great (I only bought it 3 weeks ago) I haven't actually gotten anywhere on it but I love it anyway.

I got beyond Good and Evil based on the last five seconds of the ONLY advert on the telly I ever saw for it.

A great big space-snake coloured like a Clownfish screams at the TV. advert gold right there.

Left 4 Dead, my best freind got the demo whilst i was away and kept playing it, when i got back he was telling me how awesome it was without describing it much, i looked for the demo but it had been taken off the market place, when i bought the game i neglected playing it for a month or so, when i did i didn't stop playing for a long time. Gotta love it.
And pretty much every N64 game i bought just because i didn't read reviews or have any freinds..... and i was like 9

Titan Quest. i looked at the cover, and the back. then i bought it. i like ancient mythology, so it looked really interested. today, it resides at 2# place in my favorite games of all time.

KotOR. I'd never heard about it but I saw it for $10 so I grabbed it. Instantly hooked. More recently it was Ace Combat 6. Again, never heard of it or it's five predecessors but every time I went into a game store, it sat there, taunting me. Finally I bought it and I was never the same.

A tie between L4D and Fallout 3. Both were "ahhh what the heck, I'm bored and have money to spare" purchases and I regret neither.

Lost Odyssey. I'd heard tiny murmurs of good things on the internet, and I got it and am playing it now. Very good, and sadly very underrated.

Probably prince of persia:sands of time.

But going back most of my ps1 games I just bought randomly.
The one that sticks out in my mind though is spyro the dragon.
I've since clocked hundreds of hours on that game.

I've done that a couple of times.

I bought Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi on the basis that it had Dragon Ball Z in the title, and loved it.

A similar thing happened with Guilty Gear X2 #Reload. I saw it, it was in an offer for 3 for a tenner and I needed a third game, so I picked it up at random. Turns out it's an awesome game.

Finally, Kingdom Hearts. I knew nothing about it, bought it because I was intrigued about the mix of the Disney logo and the Square Enix logo, turned out to be one of the best games I've ever played.

a long time ago, when my hair was tidy and my beard nonexistent, I bought Kingdom Hearts. I loved it.

I had tons of them:
Descent (PS1) I love that game, and I only payed like $1.99 for it.
Half Life 2 (XBox) I had saw 1 screenshot of it in a magazine, and they said "If you don't know what HL2 is, then you should turn in your gamer registration card" So, I went out and picked it up.
Final Fantasy 12 (PS2) I had played X and X-2 at a friend's, but never played 12. Then X-Play mentioned in passing that was the only FF game they liked, so I picked it up.
Civilization: Call to Power (PC) found it in a 2nd hand shop for $0.99, best dollar I ever spent.
