i dont know who that is either...

ill say system of a down BECAUSE: metal and rock is a hug genre and system covers quite a wide range of music (i think?) also i wouldnt class beatles as a rock band anyway but system beat their record with more top hit singles in one year. lso there is only one song they wrote that i would not listen too all the way through (although i accasionally still do anyway) but i like every other song they've written (and theyve written quite a lot.)

Pretty self explanatory.

I think that Van Halen is the best metal band so far. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, knows who they are, and most people like a decent chunk of their songs.

So, what do y'all think?
I think I've heard like one of their songs and I didn't like it that much. I think you should hesitate before making such generalisations in future. Especially when it's obvious they are false.

I don't think you can choose a greatest band of all time when it is so subjective.
Thats kind of the point of this thread. It's whats the greatest band in history to YOU, not as a widely accepted fact.

Hm... not to sound like a broken record:

Yeah... it's Led Zeppelin

But there are a few bands in hot pursuit.

I'd have to say either Alice in Chains or Soundgarden, if you count that as both Grunge and Rock. I do, but if they somehow don't qualify then I'd replace that choice with Mastodon and The Police. Weird choices, but I stand by 'em.

Barbarion!

Great film clip, very nostalgic for 80's rock. Classic. Oh and those are their stage costumes, I was them in a pub one night out of the blue, very cool.

AC/DC
The Rolling Stones
Led Zeppelin
Nirvana
Black Sabbath
Metallica

Most people into rock/metal have heard and liked these bands.
They're all popular, and well known even to people who don't listen to rock or metal.

As for a best in history, I couldn't put it on one...
If I had to, I'd say Metallica.

I'm going to have to go with:
Rock: Queen
Hard Rock: AC/DC
and I don't listen to anything harder so that's up to you guys.

Aww, Israeli metal, I'll have to credit global metal for my awareness of the band though.

OT, I don't think i could ever choose, but because i'm listening to them at the moment, and they really are great, I'll go with tool.

I don't know.

But I do know that anyone who says or even thinks "The Beatles" is FUCKING WRONG.

Queen is heavy metal actually. At least originally.

For me I'd go with:

The Velvet Underground
The Beach Boys
David Bowie
The Beatles

Iron Maiden. End of discussion.

Don't get me wrong, there are loads of great bands out there. I'm a huge fan of Judas Priest, Metallica, AC/DC, Disturbed, Motorhead, Avenged Sevenfold, to name but a few. But for me, the undisputed king of metal is Iron Maiden.

Could care less about Van Halen.

The question of "which is the best Rock-Metal band in history so far" is a pointless one because the question of "What is good in a rock band" is more or less subjective.

However, if you're talking about performance ability, then we can talk more objectively.

In which case I'd say Led Zeppelin, which had the best combination of performance talent in one band that I can think of.
