best band to have walked this earth =p
Heh, I was just playing their Wheel of time song while reading the books, was awesome.
So they're in contention, but I might have to go with Kamelot.
(Dream Theater is in the running too)

I'd have to say Avenged Sevenfold, as is made obvious by my deathbat avatar. Close second is Green Day. Yes, I am the sort of heretic who listens to both metal and punk. Deal with it.

And the award for most subjective thread goes to...

Fuck it, it's gotta be Iron Maiden.

Well... I'd call Avenged more Hard rock nowadays anyway. So. Its not quite the same as listening to say, Daath or Meshuggah and Green Day.

Just sayin'

Pretty self explanatory.

I think that Van Halen is the best metal band so far. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, knows who they are, and most people like a decent chunk of their songs.

So, what do y'all think?
I think you're very, very wrong but that's the thing with opinions, they can never be truly wrong.

As far as my favourites go (I try to avoid the word 'best') my all time favourite band is Bad Religion. As far as Metal goes it's difficult to say because of the (annoying and redundant) argument as to what qualifies as Metal. Maybe Avenged Sevenfold or Disturbed.

Cue someone with a bunch of (annoying and redundant) reasons why Avenged isn't Metal.

Edit: Also here is some Bad Religion for your listening pleasure.

While Led Zepplin was and is incredible, their sound basically stayed the same over the course of their recording career. Their live shows were just outstanding as well. To say Zep is the best isn't far from the truth, but that is bc so many bands emulated them. While VH is a part of modern rock history, they are a one trick pony. With David Lee Roth or Hagar.

I am seriously suprised nobody has mentioned Rush. They have consistantly changed their style from hard rock, to rock, to progressive, and many things inbetween, and had it all be incredible sounding as well as musically complex and demanding.

Rush always seemed to me to be a more seminal band but their influence can not be denied. A musicians band imo but I friking loved them. Neil peart=What a talent.

O.t for me it's Zep. It could only ever be Zep. Without them any other band after them mentioned in this thread would never have existed. The best there was, is and ever will be.

Sabbeth and the Pumpkins also get honorable mentions from me.......But not in the same league as Zep. Nothing is.

Edit: Ooooohhhhh. One band for all time. I did one for metal, a few for rock.

For just one, it would have to be Radiohead, if they count because of how unclassifiable they are. If not, David Bowie.

The PanSexuals. They are pretty awesome. But they are a hybrid of a lot of different styles, so maybe not the best example for a rock/metal group.

The great Led Zeppelin, forever gods of rock from the 70's

Edit: Followed close-by by Black Sabbath

The Best metal band IMO would be Pantera

The Best rock band would be the Beatles. Science has proven anyone who dislikes the Beatles are a communist
