I didn't include a poll because there are mny I haven't played so I didn't want to offend anyone. Any way the question is simple but the answer is difficult, what is the best RPG to appear on the PS1?

For me its Chrono Cross. Perfect story, it never got boring (something that all the FF games have, there is always a boring part in all of them), and the side missons and choose your own ending plot was/is well thought out.

For my money, it's Suikoden II. Hundreds (literally) of well-defined characters, and a mature story. I love it to death.

Don't know if I would qualify it as the best, but I certainly enjoyed Legend of Legaia. Kept me entertained for months, and is the sole reason I downloaded emulators to my computer years later.

Final Fantasy IX. That or Tactics.
FF IX was number 2 for me. Thepart where you have to go to the auction to get that 11 000 dollar item (can't remember name!!!) and play the card game was the boring part for me. Like I said before CC NEVER got boring.

Chrono Trigger is my favorite RPG ever...and was on the PS1 in some form, even though the game originally was released on the SNES...

Put two and two together and you get...

Chrono Trigger = Best PS1 RPG

hmm, torn. Chrono Trigger, Suikoden I, or Suikoden II. They are great fun with interesting characters.

Never heard of it lol
From what I've gathered, it's mostly known nowadays for being pretty darn expensive online. I got my copy back in the day, so I got it cheap, but I think it tends to go for about ~$130-150. I don't know if I would recommend it at that price, but if it ever comes on the PSN or something, check it out!

Ouch, that's a tough question and I can't really narrow it down to a single title. My personal favourites would have to be FF8, Star Ocean 2, FFTactics, Crono Cross, and Suikoden 2.

Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9 were all good. People are being very careful not to mention ff7 because it's a stereotypical fan boy rpg, and if they mention it then the masses will swarm on them oh no!

Breath of Fire 3 was another charm which I enjoyed alot.

Xenogears was actually my personal favorite, even though it wasn't that popular I think.

Vagrant Story was also amazing.

Definitely Final Fantasy Tactics

For those of you saying Chrono Trigger, Chrono Trigger was never on PS1. You're talking about Chrono Cross; Chrono Trigger is far, far superior to Chrono Cross.

It took 6 months to read my title.

Chrono Trigger got ported to the PS1. It had shiny new anime cutscenes when it did.

My favorite was...I think it goes Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy VII, Suikoden AND Suikoden II. I'm cheating as saying those two are one game. You needed to play the first one to TRULY enjoy the second, especially if you had save data.
