I never really got into RPG's. Final Fantasy games always bugged me because I'd get engrossed in the story, then get frustrated because I hadn't trained up enough to beat some boss. Happened with VII, VIII and X. I got Oblivion GOTY and enjoyed that for a while but it soon got repetative, however I've had Fable II for a few days now and am loving every minute of it. I love the Pratchett style design of the towns and characters, the cheesey humour and the fact I can wear whatever I want without having to worry about armour points or whatever. I suppose it's the ideal RPG for people who don't like RPG's.

I concur that deaus ex wasn't that great and that MAY BE because I suck steamy ballsack at it and died like a billion times (in the tutorial *cries*). For me oblivion was awesome. All you people who say morrowind was better... was it really? really?!? It just took far too long in my opinion, and though i can understand the argument that fast travelling (the thing that really pisses off my morrowind-molesting mates) can break the flow of a game but... otherwise YOU GET BORED! Oblivion I can come back to time and time again and play exactly the same missions and still enjoy it.

The best RPG is either fallout 1 or fallout 2. Fallout 2 is bigger, so I'll go with that.

I would have to say that Super Mario RPG is top in my mind.

Honorable mentions go to Pokeman, Dead rising, and Paper Mario TTYOD

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne was a high water mark for the Japanese RPG. Post-apocalyptic Pokemon at its finest. This game constantly forces you to rethink the strategy and configuration of your party in order to survive. Please do yourselves a favor and acquire it.

I should mention that I enjoyed EarthBound, Chrono Trigger, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment immensly, each in its own way.

I'd also like to say that their supposed lack of legitimate challenge has kept me from trying those Bethesda games... Oblivion and Fallout 3. Can someone comment on what they did to make these games more difficult? I do, however, plan to play through the first Fallout.

The best game I've ever played is Aardwolf Mud. (208.43.193.234:4010) I left a game in which I had 2 heroes and a GM in order to become a simple player on Aard. I've been there for the last 12 years, and the place only gets better. It's the most *complete* online game I've ever seen, and the work continues to this day. They actually have an "ideas board" that they really read, and often code in the ideas that are found there.

I tried MMORPGs, but there's no room for imagination in those, and so many of the graphics are either same-old same-old all the time, and it takes FOREVER to do anything or go anyplace, and there aren't even decent channels, or quests, or ... well, what have you.

Anyway, text games aren't dead! We have anywhere from about 300 to over 450 online at any given time, and those are single characters. I don't think I could name everything Aard has, but I'm spoiled for all time where online games are concerned!)

Fallout 3, Mass Effect, The Witcher... and I still haven't finished KOTOR so I can't put that in...

Hey! They're not really the "old" days! *LOL* Lots of people have moved on to the pretty graphics, but we still have new players being announced all day long. There are even some rocking mud clients now ... free!

Aard has a version of Mushclient which was tailor made for Aard by the original coder - free to download, free to use. Totally.

)

Paper Mario: TTYD was awesome. It's the only game that I have played almost to the end.

Knights of The Old Republic 2 (I like it more then 1 strangely enough). I loved that game. I spent days playing it. Then spent more days replaying it.

Skies of Arcadia: Legends. Man this game was brilliant. One of the only JRPGs I have ever liked. Funny, interesting and had an interesting take on religion.

Enchant Arm. The other JRPG I like. I just found this game fun to play. Especially awesome was the devil arm.

Pokemon Blue. Needs no explanation.

On a separate note. I wasn't a big fan on either Oblivion or Mass Effect. I think I missed the point of those games.

Well two of my all time favorite games are Final Fantasy Tactics and Chrono Cross.

Honorable mention should be given, though, to:
Mass Effect
Neverwinter Nights

This is of course if we're talking video games. I prefer pen and paper though.

All of the Kingdom Hearts series, although the card battle system in Chain of Memories sucked some of the fun out bashing things in the head with a giant key :(

But my first RPG and favorite of all time would have to be Legend of Dragoon. Long live multiple disc games! =D
