[small]What is the best starter Pokemon?[/small][/HEADING]

Greetings peons, I, the mighty Chief Commander of Brossassination, have once more vacated our fortress of whimsy atop the mountain of despair to bring you the latest result of our intellectual musings.

Whilst atop our mighty thrones, mine being the tallest of course, we mused over which starter Pokemon was the best, and decided to launch this question out to you, the people.

So we ask you, whast is the best starter pokemon? Why do you think it is the best? Which is the worst? And why is it the worst?

My personal favourite is Charmander, with Squirtle being a close second. Those two are just utter classics and were both very useful throughout the entirety of the game. Both had strengths and learned good moves with a lot of variety, even though at times one could easily lament not taking the grass starter with them.

My least favourite is probably Totodile in GSC (Gen 2), because his Attack stat is sky high but his STAB is special and thus he's largely inferior.

Of all the more modern starters it's probably become Pignite though.

Because Fire/Fight again.

BULBASAUR! Why?! Well, because I only played the original games and Bulbasaur was my favorite. He just looks so adorable and, for some reason, I really like animals who walk on four legs more than those who walk on two. So, GO BULBASAUR!

Everyone knows the right answer here.

Clearly it's Squirtle.

Don't like it?

If I had to pick another just to be fair on all the other starters, then I'd probably go for Cyndaquil.

Squirtle, always Squirtle.

He's so cute and Blastoise is bad-ass.

My cousin and I used to have Pokemon battles every summer. He had Pokemon Red, while I had Blue, and every year I had a Blastoise and he had a Charizard, both on level 100.

If it came down to those two Pokemon, guess who always won?

We used to trade the two Pokemon back and forth so we could keep them when we started a new game, specifically for our annual battle, it was very sad but we were really young.

Squirtle. It'll always be squirtle.

I'm really liking the look of Chespin. Might be the first time I choose a grass.

Charmander, because it evolves into a motherfucking dragon. I'm sorry, but "grows up to be a motherfucking dragon" trumps any and all opposing arguments.

I have a personal favorite for each type. All three final forms are on my dream team, so I really heart these fellas.

Fire: Charmander, it's cute and it turns into the highly overrated/awesome Charizard.

Water: Oshawott, once again, it's cute, and Samurott is just too awesome not to love.

Grass: Snivy, or smugleaf as many call him. It has a great learn set and with the future name of Serperior, sometimes a name can convince you of absolute superiority alone.

Least favorite, I don't think I can say. I've used every starter so far in a playthrough, and they never disappoint. I abstain from the rest of the question...courteously.

The obvious pick in Gen I was Bulbasaur.
Grass type gave you a huge advantage over the first couple of gyms (rock and water) and made you invulnerable in the third gym (electricity). Bulbasaur was also protected from the following grass and poison gyms, even if his attacks were, in turn, just as null. The only real disadvantage to picking Bulbasaur was Blaine's fire gym, which came so late in the game it didn't really make much of a difference by then.
Gen II, which is as far as I played, I always picked Cyndaquil. It doesn't make much of a difference by gym 1 (flying types), but knocks out gym 2 (bugs) by a long shot. Maybe it wasn't much of an advantage over gyms, but I always liked Cyndaquil. There weren't a lot of fire types around to catch (unlike water and grass types) and I liked having him as my main and sole fire type.

I fucking love Gen 2, my favourite gen by far.

OT: Man that's tough! Think I'm gonna go with Totodile. Adorable little scamp! ^_^ Also it evolves into Feraligatr, which is one of the most badass Pokemon ever.

o_O Don't fuck with Feraligatr.

Bulbasaur was always my favorite. Just the cutest by far and I liked having a grass type. Also, Ponyta and Vulpix are the best fire types, and... I really didn't often use water types, and if I did it was Psyduck. Because Psyduck is awesome.

Honestly, I hate Pikachu, though. I guess it's just so overdone that I'm sick of seeing it everywhere.

I've had all the starters and the first that come to mind for best is a tie between Cyndaquil and Snivy. I can't say the others are bad, just that I didn't like them as much. If I had a Fennekin at the time of answering I'd put that up as really good too, if only for its aesthetics and the fact that I love fire type starters on principal alone.

Cuteness aside, I love both, though Cyndaquil has access to more type coverage moves and was my first pokemon ever, first out of 3 pokemon that I've actually raised to lv 100, and was able to solo almost every battle I've had in Gold so he's got extra brownie points and nostalgia on his side. Snivy is a newer favorite and got me through a lot of tough battles this gen and I love Serperior's design.

I can never choose which I like more between Charmander and Squirtle, so they both get 1st place. One turns into a massive fire breathing dragon and the other a massive turtle with hudge cannons sticking out of it's sholders. All other starters since have been fighting for 2nd place.

I would have to go with Squirtle. It was the first starter I ever tried out, and I have loved the little guy ever since. I initially went for Squirtle because everyone else in my circle of friends started with Charmander and I wanted to be different. Also, he evolves into a giant turtle with hydro cannons on his back. You just don't argue with a giant turtle with hydro cannons on his back.

My first Pokemon game was Ruby and my first pokemon ever was Mudkip so...Mudkip. He evolves into a total badass, has a move that only he can learn (not sure with the additions of gen 4 and 5), and he has one weakness. Get a flying type in your party and he can't be beat.

Bulbasaur has always been my starter of choice. I just wish they would do an event with a Bulbasaur that learns Fly, like the Pikachu event. I have a Bulbasaur (named Soar) who hangs on the corner post of my bed to "protect" me while I sleep, and I'd love to have him in a game with me, too.

The only game I've played in the series was Poke'mon Emerald and I loved torchick, starting out as a cute fire bird and kicking major but once it started learning moves like double kick and fire blast there was little that could touch me. I remember one point when he was about 15 levels above the rest of my poke'mon just because I solely used him for about 3-4 areas in a row and he pulled it off with out a hitch. Unfortunately my save game got corrupted when I got to the elite 4 so my torchick is no more.
