They weren't zombies! They weren't even dead! They were just infected with rage, hence the biohazard sign on the cover/poster. 28 Days Later is not a zombie movie!
I know they weren't zombies, but I would still consider it a "zombie" movie
If they weren't zombies how can you consider it a zombie film?
The "Infected" in 28 Days Later are practically zombies. The only qualification that they don't meet is being dead, but in a sense they are already dead.

Definitely Day of the Dead and Dawn of the Dead (original).

Shaun of the Dead was great, yes, but I'd consider it a comedy first, and a zombie film second (and it wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Romero's work).

I loved 28-something-Later movies, but they are not exactly what comes to mind when I think "zombies".

Dawn of the Dead, The original, not the remake that was butchered by Zach Snyder.
It was so shit it was good! A man gets on his arm ripped off and when he's on a blood pressure reader, and his blood pressure goes really high! It makes no sense!

'Practically' doesn't cut it really! I'm caucasian, but because I have opposable thumbs, two eyes, two arms and two legs I suppose it makes me 'practically' Chinese..........catch my drift?

There are only two criteria when deciding if somethings a proper zombie

1) It walks slowly
2) It's dead

My favourite is definately the original Dawn of the Dead. Day of the Dead had its moments, like the awesome head ripping off scene....but it had Bub, a zombie that learns to use a gun/razor/phone. Zombies don't learn.

Enjoyed 'Shaun of the Dead' but I have to admit, I'm looking forward to the upcoming "Zombieland". It looks hilarious.

The definition of a "zombie" is constantly changing, especially as new generations of directors are changing the survival horror genre. I don't think the classic definition really covers the amount of new ideas introduced in the "zombie" genre, which recently introduced "thinking" zombies and those that can run.

Also, having two opposable thumbs, two eyes, two arms and two legs (while not all the qualifications) makes you HUMAN, regardless of your ethnicity. The difference between chinese and caucasian is, in comparison, like the different types of zombies in L4D. While they are all different, they are on the base level zombies, just like how everyone is, on the base level, humans.

I think "Diary of the Dead" was really good because it was like Cloverfield with the first person view but with zombies

Dawn of the Dead (1978) - The classic zombie movie, and for good reason. Has everything a zombie movie needs.

Day of the Dead (1985) - A worthy successor to Dawn, and features Rhodes, one of my favourite all time villains.

Zombi 2 (Zombie in the US) - The unofficial sequel to Dawn of the Dead, Zombi 2 is in Italian, but is worth watching for the scene where a zombie fights a shark. And it was a real shark with a stuntman. Insane.

Wild Zero - Japanese people enlist the help of a local punk rock band to fight the zombie apocalypse. As you do.

Dead Set - Not strictly a movie, but worth checking out for the social commentary about reality tv and it's effect on the public, and to see Davina McCall get what she deserves.

Dawn of the Dead (2004) - I'm including this, because it's one of only a few remakes I consider to be successful. It has enough elements of the original in place, while managing to be it's own film.

White Zombie (1932) - Absolutely awful, but the first zombie film ever made, so had to be included.

Shaun of the Dead - Funny and a legitimate zombie film. I hope Zombieland manages to be as good as this.

28 Days Later - Not a zombie film, but Danny Boyle's horror manages to pay homage to zombie films of old while updating the formula enough to make something captivating and original.

Shaun of the Dead and Planet Terror were both hilarious, though in entirely different ways. I'm also looking forward to Zombieland. As far as serious zombie flicks go, I'm actually not sure.... maybe Dawn of the Dead.

Overall, Shaun of the Dead is still my favorite zombie movie. I guess I like to mix zombies with humor.
