OK i'm doing this what is with almost everyone liking Skyrim but i just don't get it. Not saying that it will be a bad game but really can some one give me a reason why it will be so good?
And no the reason "Because it's Skyrim" or "Because it's an Elder Scrolls game" will not count i want a real reason to buy this game because it looking very bad to me right now mainly because why people are so praising of it 3 months before it comes out.
ok my first elder scrolls game was oblivion and let me tell you i fell in love with it right away. first of all, the game was HUGE and beautiful. there was soo much customization for what kinds of magic, weapons, armor, and skills allowing for a lot of varied game play. there was also a a lot of side quests and no obligation to complete the main quest right away, making it a lot more free than most games. combat was a lot of fun and could be very tactical. and finally oblivion had Patrick Stewart.
from what ive seen, Skyrim pretty much has or has improved on everything that i loved in oblivion, minus Patrick Stewart.

This.
Over 300 hours of gameplay, dynamic events and basically the right to do what ever you want in the game. And you think there's something to be added? Do it! Mod the game almost endlessly and even use the creation tool to create a brand new game (if you have the skill). Play Oblivion or Morrowind if you haven't already. Then you'll see why.
By your logic we should look forward to absolutely nothing in life. All of your comments throughout this thread have outed you as either very young, or well below-average I.Q.
I've been.... reluctant about Skyrim after not loving oblivion as much as morrowind. I enjoy being able to kill anyone, even if it ruins the plot, and it feels a bit more on rails with the way Oblivion's boundaries work.
What is the point of this thread? Skyrim isnt a game that appeared out of the blue, it it a long series of great games. How can you not even of heard of it or have any idea of what it is about? Do a bit of research. Find out about it before writing a thread about it. I just dont know if you are trolling or you are 12 years old or are actually clueless about this game.
The problem i have is people ask about games, even though they have the internet, the fountain of all knowledge at their fingertips, but instead ask us about it all. Doesnt even know the basic information for the game.
If you want to know about the game. Go here. http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/286552-skyrim-information/
Or play Oblivion or look on youtube for video of it.
Because I love Oblivion and this is looking like everything Oblivion was and much, much more.
That and, well, just look at it! Jesus, it looks incredible. Anyone with even the slightest inclination toward WRPGSs should be at least looking forward to it.
Isn't that what most games are?
Besides, more oblivion with lots more stuff? Oblivion was about 100 to 200 hours long and had more content than any game of it's time, and still has more content than most new games. It had over 1000 NPCs with different dialogue, facial structures and personalities. 10 different races with hundreds of customisation options, hundreds of different weapons and a world where every where you go you see something new, except there's nothing to stop you going where you want to go. Join a guild each with it's own story, mages guild, fighters, assassins or theives, there is not one moment where you have nothing to do.
So Skyrim is a 300 hour long free roam adventure game with double everything from oblivion but with different stories, NPCs, factions and everything is just new and improved... then yeah... we want that.
I'm going to give the OP the benefit of the doubt (because what the hell, I feel charitable today), and rattle off some of the reasons why I, a fan of the Elder Scrolls series since Morrowind (and I have since played the older games as well), am looking forward to Skyrim:
1. They're really shaking Tamriel (the continent the games take place on) up in this installment, much more so than in previous games. So far the storyline and main quests of the previous Elder Scrolls games have been all about attempting to preserve the quasi-benevolent Empire that controls most of the land and the Septim dynasty that rules it. Now
The Septim line has ended, the Empire has pretty much fallen, unrest and civil war wrack the various regions, and for the first time in centuries the long-dormant dragons have awoken to spread further destruction and confusion.
2. The Elder Scrolls series has a reputation (or rather, one of many reputations) for providing vast in-game landmasses to explore, and this one looks to be no exception. The rugged terrain and harsh conditions of Skyrim should provide some interesting and varied vistas to investigate. Take this screenshot, for example:
See that huge mountain in the background? You'll be able to scale it if you're so inclined.
3. The leveling system will be revamped from Oblivion's maddeningly linear scaling with the player character (one of my biggest complaints about that game). Now you should expect a mix of easy and difficult enemies to face.
4. Better combat. For the first time you'll be able to dual-wield weapons, spells, shields or some combination thereof.
5. Better NPC interaction.
6. The addition of optional crafting and side professions.
7. For the first time in an Elder Scrolls game, dragons will emerge from their long dormancy.
As for attracting new players, Bethesda has done a superb job so far. Perhaps you don't realize it since you're a newcomer yourself, but many fans (myself included) got started on Morrowind, the third game in the series (not counting the few spin-offs they had done as well). Indeed, the Elder Scrolls series had mostly a niche audience until Morrowind came along. Many more got their introduction to the series via Oblivion, the fourth installment. Bethesda consciously makes the setting and story accessible for newcomers with each new game, while still containing many subtle references that only longtime fans will catch.
There. Hope that was comprehensive enough for you.

It is different....different story different areas skills....armor. even if the basic gameplay is the same its ripping you out of the area and putting you down elsewhere. The game is a big story and progression game. Look at the dynasty warriors game, 7 of them besides the gundam ones and still great games. They don't have to change majorly to be good, and they do change alot.
Because some people like playing in a fantasy world, which isn't post-apocolyptic or full of modern machinery, guns or insane technology? It doesn't even have steampunk.
But yes, the world is huge, it's quite immersive. It's been several years, so that's years of potential improvements on Morrowind and Oblivion which may go terribly wrong but may work too.
It doesn't even need to appeal to a new gamer base. Which franchise does? There has been very little over the years which has attracted me to a Call of Duty game and they're being pumped out like illegitimate sprogs all the time. Final Fantasy hasn't done much. Nor has Mass Effect with it's 'upload your previous guy' system.
Thing is, if a game already has millions of fans, it doesn't NEED to change it's ways for new ones. Plus it is it's own entity. It's not a cheap follow on. It won't be any worse than Oblivion was compared to Morrowind. I didn't play it but I had NO problem understanding Oblivion and it made me want to play the older games.
Personally I am looking forward to Skyrim because of how much i loved oblivion.
I love the free form do as you please sort of game play. you want to use that axe whats that your axe skill is 0 and you normally use a bow well thats ok swing it all you want dosnt mean your going to be good at it but if you keep swinging you will get better
i love the huge open world. i enjoy wondering around exploreing and finding new things ive been doing every thing but the main quest for the past 20 hours of my most recent play.
sure games like border lands are fun but you sorta wonder around in a somewhat straight line and the game ends. another thing that makes the elderscrolls great is their ability to be modded people add all sorts of stuff to the game from new quests to new locations to of course the almost required nude mods.
my current character is an bow and two handed sword useing badass in light armor who assassinates steals and also fights for money =)
skyrim is just expanding on every thing that made the previous games great that is why it is so anticipated
