what is the deal with Skyrim?

i started with this series by playing Daggerfall on pc. Honestly in this new age of gaming where everything is bent towards multiplayer and MMORPGs i'm totally enthused that we have a company that puts out a solid single player experience. I do enjoy playing with friends but you find precious few games out today that are any fun to play solo. Using earlier examples the COD games are mildly entertaining when you play single player, there are a few things that the campaign modes do that you can't in multiplayer but with most FPS games out today the online experience is what company's are trying to cash in on. But i must admit i really enjoyed Fallout 3 (more than New Vegas in truth) simply because it took the classic games and made them, not really better, but more than they had been. That is what Skyrim brings to the table now, a fresher look with more to it than the previous games.

OK i'm doing this what is with almost everyone liking Skyrim but i just don't get it. Not saying that it will be a bad game but really can some one give me a reason why it will be so good?

And no the reason "Because it's Skyrim" or "Because it's an Elder Scrolls game" will not count i want a real reason to buy this game because it looking very bad to me right now mainly because why people are so praising of it 3 months before it comes out.
If you like giant first person open world RPG's, the options are... um Bethesda games or... well that's it.

If those type of games are your favorite genre, which they are to many many people, than this is the only game that fits.

Plus a lot of people, myself included, are huge fantasy nerds. That this game blends the two makes it the ultimate nerdgasm for a lot of people.

I think the whole thing from Moviebob on Harry Potter may be appropriate here: The die was cast a long time ago. This isn't necessarily so much because "It's Skyrim" as "because this is the next in a long-lived and very popular series of epic RPGs."

There's a certain beauty in that. On the one hand, if you liked Morrowinf or Oblivion, this will be more of the same and you'll probably love it. On the other, if you didn't, this will be more of the same and you'll probably not like it.

I don't get the appeal of the franchise in general, but it is the perfect measuring stick. People liked the last one, people will like this one. I'm not even entirely sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. It certainly isa thing, though.

I know this thread is five pages, so all that's probably said. Maybe my question is old hat, too, but have you ever had a game where you longed for new adventures in a similar setting or with similar gameplay mechanics? That's the case for Skyrim. For many, it means a bigger dose of something they can't get enough of. I am not one of them, but I can sympathise.

Have you ever played an Elder Scrolls game?
Most people here have, and they want more. Skyrim is more. We're hoping it's better too.
no but i player fallout and hated it and besides if they want more money then they should aim it at new gamers as well instead of the older ones
I was about to leave this thread without commenting, when I say your post here.

You obviously have no fucking idea how shit streamlined/dumbed-down/aimed at new gamers Oblivion is in comparison to previous Elder Scrolls games.

You appear to be suggested that Skyrim should be even more "aimed at new gamers", to which I will reply bluntly:
"I am very happy you do not appear to be happy with Skyrim".

Honestly, asking games to be more accessible is fine. Asking games that are already very much accessible to be more accessible is to the detriment of everyone.

The OP says a game looks bad because people are praising it before release that makes no sense I can understand not buying into the hype but to think a game will be bad because of it is irrational, as to why most people are excited look at the game play trailers and list of confirmed features, being part of a series of well recieved games doesn't hurt either so it being a TES game is a valid plus, I like the huge open world exploitation and medival fantasy is always fun. I enjoyed oblivion so why wouldn't I enjoy a more refined and polished version?

I think all that needs to be said has been said, but I'll just say it again.

Oblivion and Morrowind.

the only thing i hope they do is bring back the modular armor of morrowind. I liked being able to have an orcish pauldron on one arm and a glass one on the other. Morrowind had a much greater degree of customization as far as appearance went than any of the others

What's the deal with airline food?

but seriously, i suppose everyone is so excited because they played Oblivion a lot. they know what to expect, and its probably not as boring as it looks. even i think the dragon battles look pretty cool. maybe its just not your type of game.

You get a massive, beautiful and detailed world to yourself and you can do what you want with it.

Seriously? This thread is unnecessary and stupid. Alright, you dont like Skyrim. Fine. I dont like Zelda. Am I going to make a thread about it? I dont like COD 4. Am I going to make a thread about it? I dont like all those indie games. Am I going to make a thread about it?

You dont like The Elder Scrolls. Fine. But we dont care.
HOW DARE YOU BADMOUTH ZELDA AND COD4!!!
I AM GOING TO MAKE A THREAD ABOUT HOW I DON'T LIKE YOU.

OP: because it looks and sounds amazing. I was sold on the graphics overhaul, but when I saw what you can do with your mainhand and offhand, I was drooling on my keyboard.
It also helps that its a Bethesda game, and made to be like Oblivion, which I fucking loved.

for the same reason people liking the next game in their favorite game series. I really like both Morrowind and Oblivion and I'm looking forward to playing the game both of the games are really fun and I still play oblivion from time to time with a new installment it give its more story and areas to explore. Also it looks allot better than past games.

It's a matter of trust. The past Elder scrolls games have been great, so we trust the the next iteration will be good as well. Not to mention that Skyrim looks to be the most amazing one yet at least in terms of game engine, graphics, sound, etc. I'm not sure how the story and quest content will be but again, I'm trusting Bethesda with this one.

(side note: 200+ hours in Oblivion, Skyrim should have at least have that worth)

It's not isolating new gamers. Oblivion was the first Elder Scrolls game I played and I had no problems with it. The stories in each game seem to be unrelated but take place in the same universe. That's as far as I gathered anyway, I could've just failed to pick up on continuity.

As for why people are so excited about Skyrim? Well for the same reason that many people are looking forward to MW3, ME3 or any other new installment in a popular franchise. It's because people know that they liked the previous games and hence assume that they will probably also enjoy a new addition to the series that will come with various alterations which should make the game even better than past iterations.

Even if I was an Oblivion fan, I would be too busy getting my cod fix, to worry about anything else.
I hope you do realize that there are some of us that do not need nor ever have had to get a CoD fix?

If you want a real reason then watch/read a review when it comes out. This is a game that isn't out yet and the developer made some damn good games before it. So I don't what else you expect us to tell you.

randomized Dragons with their randomized interactions like attacking a town, taking people while flying and dropping 'em, chewing anyone, and firebreath...

now add to this a bunch of locations, plus a shitload of quests, plus a flora+fauna, spellmaking/blacksmithing etc.

and future PC MODS ported 4 FREE to download on the CONSOLES !
Whether you know it or not, Skyrim has removed Spell Making. But even more cool stuff was announced at the same time to cussion the blow, such as more minor factions like adventure parties and branching quest paths for them, face paint options, NPCs can through rocks at you if they are above you on a bridge, and more...

Looks awesome. Personally I'll wait to see how the launch goes before buying though. I got burnt with New Vegas, bought it on release and then couldn't really play it until it was patched. And even now it still crashes like no other game I have ever played, and I played Dungeon Keeper II back in the day (ask your dad). I just don't trust Bethesda's quality control.

Because it's being made by a talented team of people who have proven they know how to make phenomenal games.

They made fantastic epics like Morrowind and Fallout 3.
The Elder Scrolls universe is a rich and full of different stories, so the reasons you banned are the reasons it looks so good. It looks great because it's an Elder Scrolls game and because it's set in Skyrim, and place we've heard about since 1994 but hardly had the chance to explore.
