Weapon/Armor system from FF9
Characters: Well some hillarious idiots like Xell (FF8) no nowadays Lara Croft (i.e. Super Saiyan titmonster)a main character more like Dante from Devil may Cry , not humanoids only (really liked Red 13)AND NO japanese kiddy characters like in Eternal Sonata; should maybe vary between 18 and 50 years
Story: FF7ish just less emo
Battle/lvl/ability System: Lvling should give you some abilities, weak magic should be able to be learnd /bought; other magic gained through using the lower lvls, an hidden endboss which by any circumstances should still be ridcoulously hard, system like in FF7/8/9
Items: Weapons should always make a difference and Armor atleast with the main character

Story in FFX
Excuse me, what?
I can't help it, I loved the religious satire and the outside perspective, how it was told through the eyes of someone with only a loose understanding of their surroundings, and how that perspective eventually saw the flaws of the system and dramatically changed it.

FFX wasn't as bad of a game as people give it credit for. It is far from the best but there is alot of undertones of racism, religious dogma etc etc. As a story, it is good, if you ignore some of the glaringly obvious problems (namely a bit of an iffy script, but at least it is somewhat well acted).

I have said it before and I will say it again. Those who played FFVI before FFVII like FFIX because FFIX went back to the idea of FFVI and those before it. FFVII was the destruction of the series imho, and despite popular opinion it wasn't even that great a FF.

Also, while granted the games should really have ended by now, people forget that each game, with only a couple of exceptions, are their own story outright. If the games all linked into eachother in one long plot I could see why people would say they should finish but for the moment the stories are worth playing for.

And I like stories. I do feel that FFXI shouldn't have been called XI, but something similar to Final Fantasy Online, with XII being XI and so forth.

Reinstate Yoshitaka Amano as Character Designer.

Nomura (Character designer from Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy 7, 8, 10 and 13) should not be allowed near it on pain of death.
I love you, Pedro.

Honestly, if they ever did a game where the graphics resembled Amano's style, the world would collapse, but it would be amazing.

Ok, so this thread is for those of us who have played all (or nearly all) of the final fantasies, and have noticed the severe changes from ne to the next. we have leveled through sphere grids and learned skills from Guardian Forces, and now I ask you: what would the theoretical best game be? This is for the creative types, so please don't put "all of FF VII" or put in things that have never been in a FF game. other than that, all pieces are game. Here's mine:

Story and lack of ATB in FFX
Leveling system of FFIX (and tactics)
Job system of FFV
Minimap of FFX
and art style of XII
For me, the perfect Final Fantasy is technically impossible, since I know which battle system I want, and it's not from an FF game. Although, if you want me to be FF-specific, I can do that.

A story akin to Final Fantasy, but preferably not on a global/galactic scale.
With a humor resembling IX and X.
The battle style of a modernized version of VI, but the job system of Tactics or V.
Town and stage design much like II.
"Leveling system" similar to II, but with a concrete gain as well, like Tactics's.
Character design like Final Fantasy.
Mini-Games from VII (I hate mentioning this one, but VII had some really good mini-games).
Character development similar to V, VIII, and X.

Personally, though, I'd like a battle system like Chrono Trigger's, just modernized. I think the techs and map-placement battle system like CT did ATB right, and they just left it alone. If you could modernize the ATB like they did in X-2, but implement it into CT's battle style, it would make for a beautiful battle system. Why, Square, did you do something so well, then leave it alone for as long as you did?

It was the Akira Toriyama art, wasn't it? Yeah, I wouldn't want that in my best RPG title, either...

FFX's story was dreary, predictable, and annoying. Also, it was basically lifted wholesale from Grandia, with a sprinkling of Grandia 2 for good measure. Except those games were actually fun.

This is one of the reasons that FFX-2 was approximately a million times better. It was fun, it didn't do everything with overblown pomposity and po-facedness, and it didn't have that stupid stupid sphere grid, the longest, most overwrought, and satisfaction free levelling system ever devised, where advancements are so incremental you can't feel them having an effect on your characters.

My problem with FF (and I know A LOT of people disagree with me on this) is that it kind of stopped being fantasy, it's more like Sci-Fi now. This trend started more or less with FF 6, and was basicaly established in FF 7;
The first FF game had a fucking space station, FFIV had giant robots and spaceships to a final dungeon on the moon. Fantasy my left asscheek.

Well, I think the fighting mechanics and method of leveling in FFX were the best in the series. But I think the story was weak and the characters (bar Rikku) were totally unlikeable.

That's funny, because Final Fantasy I through V aren't very good at all. I to III are basically grind-a-thons, and IV and V have very forced plots with stiff characters. The standards were just low when they were developed.

VI is a solid game until you enter the World of Ruin, but once I reached Kefka's tower the boring random encounters just made me stop playing the game and never go back.

Story of FFVI
Graphics of FFVI
Music of FFVI
Characters of FFVI
Combat system of FFVI

They could call it Final Fantasy VI

EDIT: In all seriousness, the less Amano is involved, the less interested I am. Wasn't he involved in almost all aspects of art direction for VI (other than music)?

A complete graphical update remake of Final Fantasy XII for PS3. Damn it, I am still pissed at the teaser trailer for E3 all those years ago. No upgrades for gameplay or story, just graphics. I would buy that so fast it would burn a hole in my wallet.

FFVII esque.

I don't like that fantasy ones, but rather the Final Fantasies that are more technilogical.

I agree with this one. I really like that feature in Oblivion and other Elder Scroll games.

Remove the gender confused protagonists and the forced sloppy romance subplot and the series might make a change for the better. Though I suppose that die hard FF fans are not going to want to change something that have become so used to. After all, it would be like turning the lights on for a cave dweller. Some change isn't welcome if you've spent the last decade settling for the weird oddities of the series.
