What is the hardest country to invade?

Here are my picks.

1. Costliest invasion - Afghanistan. There are still plenty of narrow roads and band infrastructure so that an invasion like the USSR and the failure that followed can be copied. Countless land vehicles will be stalled and disposed of in the narrow mountain ways and high-tech helicopters would fall due to their slick rocket lauchers from the 80s.
2. Bloodiest invasion - I opt for China. They have a massive reserve of people which means that when you bomb a population center millions will die. After that they'll start evacuating and create refugee camps that would make even bigger population concentrations.
3. Longest Invasion - Russia. So much territory, so many people, so many places to hide. Worst climate to handle. The partisans will never stop harrasing your occupying forces. NEVER.
4. Most difficult invasion- I'm not sure what to write here. I suppose one could claim the North Korea would be the most difficult if you assume they have the same mindset as the Japanese during WW2. Which means it'll never end and will be especially deadly since they have nuclear weapons. Ouch.

But the hardest country of ALL time to invade is definetly Russia, while in second place would be Antartica.

The Answer... AUSTRALIA!!

The only option is naval assault, Australia is far away from any countries that have a significant army that would consider invading us, so that is a lot of fuel right there and have you seen how much that stuff is these days? And if you want some armour that is a lot of money to get shipped here. Then the actual invasion after boarding our lands, if you come from the west coast of Australia you have to trek across desert and that is a lot of water and supplies right there and after the long sea journey your soldiers won't be in high spirits then the getting across deserts would make them miserable. Or if you come from the east coast you have to deal with with soldiers that are sea sick and in low spirits.

After being in seas you probably will have men dies from throwing up to death... and I don't know how easy it is to shoot after being on waters for extended periods is going to be enough to let our army shoot at you... to put it bluntly.

Well Australia is a big place with hot days and then pouring rain, so that can't be good for armour and mens spirits so that makes them a difficult group to command.

Also no retreat and reinforcements, how so well if you can swim to your country your not going to get far, and reinforcements will take however long the boats take to get here.

To conclude the hardest country to invade is... Russia... wait what?

Either Russia or China. Russia has a massive military, it's bleedin' massive, the winters are notoriously brutal, and history has shown us what happens when Russia is invaded. (It doesn't go well). Plus, Russia has the largest nuclear arsenal in the world. China is also bleedin' massive, has a lot of people that can be conscripted into an army, and a massive industrial base to make weapons. Plus, Tibet has harsh winters as well. Oh, and nukes.

Still doesn't count as an invasion. No German troops landed in the UK apart from shot-down pilots, and those don't count. There's a reason we're known as the unsinkable aircraft carrier.

Switzerland. Every eligible male citizen receives military training, and it's pretty good training as far as most standard military units go. Many keep their weapons at home, shooting is pretty much a national past time, and they are pretty much surrounded by the Alps, which has many bunkers and tunnels for the Swiss troops.

Hahaha, I have to agree.

Hardest: UK. Seeing as Her Majesty's Royal Army/Navy/Airforce have lots of posts in different countries, chances are that information about invasion could be gathered extremely quickly. Plus, I believe the forces themselves are very well trained.
Costliest: Probably Russia. Not only because of how big the country is but also buying the correct equipment for all your soldiers would be very expensive.
Longest: Well I'd say the longest would probably the USA. It's quite large, there's a lot of guns and a whole lot of different environments (places like Lake Michigan, the Mojave Desert, the Rocky Mountains). It'd probably take at least a year to completely invade, especially if you count Alaska and Hawaii in this.

Japan would also be hard to defeat due to tactical geniusness. I mean, they lost the war only because USA dropped two nukes on their heads...

Haha what? The war was over before the US dropped the bombs, the Japanese (by most accounts) simply refused to surrender. Even if the war had continued conventionally Japan was finished.

Still, Japan was much less developed at the time and had much,much less men than the USA. In the modern times, with Japan's tech advancements I'm guessing they could hold for longer (at least until the attacker decides to launch nukes). They still have a great sense of teamwork and discipline.
Fun fact: Japan was the only country in the war that actually attacked the USA mainland. A japanese submarine that was ordered to destroy some coastal cities (I forgot which ones) with missiles. The submarine was intercepted and forced to retreat and only had chance to fire one missile, that hit a foresty area. SO yeah, at least they tried!

I don't know enough. But I'll buck the trend and say New Zealand. The only invasion in it's history didn't work.

With a total of 10,000 men(read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_of_New_Zealand), I doubt an organised army could not easily invade New Zealand.

Haha! That just made me laugh out loud.

I was actually thinking the same thing. For armies it has basically impassablle terrain. If I remember correctly, during WWII, every village had a small army with army training and weapons, each army protecting their valley / mountain, knowing every inch of the local environment, vastly increasing their chances against even overwhealming forces.

I know it's probably Russia, China or the USA. But I'm still saying Switzerland, because I'm pretty sure no-one will ever invade Russia, China or the USA for any reason. All-out nuclear war is the only options, and you generally don't want to invade heavily irradiated ground.
