LittleBigPlanet...specifically the South American level with the jumping boards. The timing it takes can quickly drive one completely insane.

Personally its Prince of Persia. The original one fo rthe SNES. I've never heard of anyone finishing that. I bet the ending cinematic probably isn't on youtube.
jk.

Anyway whats the hardest game you've ever played?

*Also has anyone ever beaten the original POP?

You mean the first one released in like 1989-1990, or the second one Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame?
I mean the first one is hardish(because of the time limit and all), but it's not that hard. It was actually the first game I ever played(and finished). Probably that's why I'm so good at video games.
But anyway, the second one... I don't even wish to remember how hard it was.

OT: On my list I have to put Dangerous Dave(a old PC and probably SNES game), and Half Life 1(it was my first shooter, and I died constantly every 10 minutes + the cool graphics made it so scary).

I still can't believe you beat that son of a *****. I gave up on the first level.
because I was one determined little fucker.

I was 3 years old, I wasn't gonna let that shit beat me!!!

But it did. For a long fucking time.

... Also.. Mass Effect 2 on Insanity is pretty hard.
I think that largely depends upon your Shepard's class, because as an Infiltrator I didn't find it to be so painfully difficult.

OT: I never beat probably half of my NES and SNES games, though in my defense I was pretty young back then. In slightly more recent years I discovered that the final level of Osu! Tatakae Ouendan 2 is a ***** on higher difficulty settings. Most recently I've been having my bum kicked by some of the levels of Little Big Planet.

Grand Prix Legends [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.73185-Grand-Prix-Legends-A-Retrospective-Review]. It's a simulation of perhaps the most dangerous time in Formula One racing, the late 1960s. 400bhp cars with no downforce, rock-hard bias-ply tyres and brakes which suffice more to send you into the wall than help you corner.

It makes Battletoads look merciful.
Oddly enough, this was one of the first things that sprang to my mind too. I haven't played it, but I remember it driving my older brother insane.

Much to my embarrassment though, I would say the only game I've ever really wanted to play through and had to quit because I was useless at it was Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. I was stuck after the first few handfuls of missions.

Tetris, I have never beaten that game!!

Also as a 10 year old playing Ocarina of Time I never completed it and I never picked it up again, yet, so to this day memories of the never ending water temple roam in my mind.

Played? IWBTG or Battletoads.

Beaten? Probably Elite Beat Agents on Hard Rock mode. The easier difficulties actually seem to go in slow-motion after that.

Ninja Gaiden 1 for the NES, mostly for the re spawning enemies and hellish Act 6.

Though Shin Megami Tensei games can get downright sadistic asides from the Raidou games. Mostly through the use of instant death spells and a horrible turn of luck.

Hardest game ever.
You stole the words out of my mouth. Hardest platformer ever. Of all time. I gave up on it after I almost beat the first level. Too many retries... spirit broken. Never want to play again...
Yeah I gave up after level three. It was sort of fun at first, but then it just became impossible!

The hardest game I ever played is The Island of Myst. Very difficult specially since I didn't cheat.

Metal Gear Solid 4 on The Boss Extreme. I beat that sucker and it felt good. =_=
I'm actually going through that right now (maybe I should say I'm halfheartedly going through it) I made it to Vamp with no alerts and about 10 kills (I killed the guys that came before Laughing Octopus) and I died when he was almost groggy enough to stab him with the syringe. Then he raped me with his knies.

Ragequit. Never touched the game since.

Wait till you get to the snake level. It's where I finally gave up.

No fuck you man. The game devs expect you to memorize that part of the game. No fuck that shit.

*Walks away from computer to fathom how someone completed that in real life*

Dragon Age: Origins. I tried beating it on normal... absolutely impossible. Beating it on easy was doable, but still difficult at several parts. The game is over 150 hours long and when playing on normal difficultly i only got past 2 or less.

Filtering out broken games and games with artificial difficulty*...hmmm. I'll need to think on this.

So far I've got Nethack and a couple of Ninja Gaiden games, though the Ninja Gaiden games also suffer from artificial difficulty.

Metroid Prime 2 on Hard without the Dark Suit also qualifies, but that's a variant challenge.
Battletoads was pretty brutal, but I did eventually beat it on an original NES.
Advance Wars 2, Hard Campaign was also pretty damn nasty for a turn-based strategy game.

*I Wanna Be the Guy and every romhack that it celebrates are disqualified because of this. Guys, it isn't genuinely "hard" if it's mostly just a test of the player's luck; just frustrating.

I beat I Wanna Be the Guy in a day; funny as hell and with some genuinely difficult platforming, but most of those good bits are smothered by the pointless trial-and-error in where you try to locate all of the hidden instant-death traps.
