Going old school, Pathways into Darkness. I never beat it, I gave up when I got killed trying to make the escape. I hated that game with a passion.

Ys Seven on Nightmare. You take off like 7 hit points on bosses that have about 5000 HP. Oh and you only have about 120 Hp and they take off around 30 HP each hit. Add to that you have essentially NOTHING (no potions or revival potions) at the beginning of that game and you are required to have long ass boss fights and not get hit at all.

It took a lot out of me beating the FIRST boss.
Oh don't worry, you get restorative items later, and just wait till you get to some of the later bosses. That fucking Bird on top of the Wind Precinct, The Earth Dragon, and Second Form of the Moon Dragon are total assholes. Ys7 from what I've managed to gather is arguably the EASIEST in the series and I can see why.

You should try Ys3: Oath In Felghana, it's supposedly the hardest in the series and boy does it show. You just have Adol the whole time, and you don't get restorative items during boss battles. The final boss on nightmare is well....a nightmare. The other bosses will kick your ass rather thoroughly as well.

Can't wait for 1&2 chronicles to give me an ass whooping :p
Im on that inect boss now. Jesus did the devs even play the damn games? I get boss raped so often I don't even feel it anymore. I think I have to go back and grind...

I Wanna Be the Guy! That game is impossible no matter what people say. My reflexes suck and I will always die in that game.

Oh the big bug inside the tree? Yea the first time you fight him is annoying. It's a long battle, you gotta take out his legs before you can do actual damage. Try to practice flash guarding, it makes boss attacks and enemies more manageable. Stupidly enough, the in game tutorial does not tell you about flash guard but the manual does. You gotta tap L+R together but the best way of doing it is to hold R and tap L when you wanna block, saves you from accidentally using your limit break (why they didn't make THAT L+R is beyond me).

For those long continuous attacks rapidly tapping L while holding R is a god send. It will make bosses a lot less annoying and is vital if you really wanna beat the game.

Yeah lol I searched the internet to find out how to guard because I couldn't beat the twin headed turtle for the longest time. The only reason why I die for this boss is because of those bugs he makes fall from the ceiling that inflict flame on you while you fight him.

I'd have to go with the Ninja Gaiden franchise in general, as well as Devil May Cry series when playing Dante Must Die mode.

Trauma Center: Under the Knife for the DS.

Some parts are quite easy and doable. Some parts are hard until you can figure out what to do. And there are other surgeries that are damn near impossible, although I did beat the game!

What made this game ESPECIALLY difficult is what you're doing. You are performing a constant stream of activities with your stylus. You're also holding the console in the other hands. Toward the end of a difficult/impossible surgery, adrenaline starts to fill you, making your hands shake. That can kill you if you're attempting delicate movements.

I could only play the game in small chunks because after difficult surgeries, I would have to sit and just shake for about 5 minutes and let the adrenaline wear off. I could never ever be a doctor.

Aw you wimp, take your beatings like a man ^_^ It's not that challenging on any other the other difficulty levels....well maybe Hard mode is challenging but the rest are cake walks. It's mainly the bosses that are a pain, the normal enemies tend to be alright regardless of difficulty.

XD Well, I play games just to play them, not usually to beat them on some ridiculous setting. Unless I really like the game, then I might try it just to see what it's about, or it's some unusual but possible trick, like beating FF6 with only Setzer, Edgar and Celes.

Instead of going for the obvious Demon's Souls/Super Meat Boy/IWBTG answer, I'll go with The Legend of Dragoon. This was a while ago and I was just horrible at the combat because I could never press the buttons at the right time, and the game tends to become really hard when you can't even string together a simple combo.

Both "Demon's Souls" and "I Want to be the Guy" give you infinite lives, even if you need every single one.

I always found "God Tower" to be one of the hardest pure puzzle games out there, but like the previous examples once you learn the trick the difficulty is gone.

Pure difficulty in execution, of course "Guitar Hero 2" bonus songs like Jordon on expert are ridiculous.

And then you can look back to the old school insanely difficult games, at both execution and tricks to learn, plus limited lives: in which "Battle Toads" is probably the hardest one I've touch.
