Maybe it's 'cos I'm bad at RPGs but Etrian Odyssey (sp?). Two hours in and I was still fighting mice and butterflies! Much later, 3 floors down, my party of 5 armed with axes, bows and magic struggled to take down a fucking wolf. Seriously. And it wasn't even huge or anything!

I'm still not finished it yet, though I have levelled a lot.

I love how "Burn 'Em Out", the easy and short mission, turned into one of the hardest.

It was one I didn't beat. After hours of trying to get through the part where the japanese with Type 100 hide behind barrels in a cave and aim for the entrance, I just gave up.

And I'm not terrible at CoD either. CoD on Veteran - done. MW2 on Veteran - done. Black Ops on Veteran - done. WaW on Veteran - thanks, no.

I pulled off Burn 'Em Out and Relentless on Veteran eventually.

I never bothered advancing further...

I think the hardest game I've ever played is Damon Souls. That game was EVIL!

It wasn't thaat bad... It was hard, sure, but not control hurling worthy. I really enjoy the game.

Heart of Darkness (PC, think it was on the PSX as well though) - first bloody game my dad ever gave to me.

I was 4. Even he couldn't do it!

I actually found that game to get easier after the end of the first disc, well, up until the last level which was a nightmare. I miss Heart of Darkness

The hardest game I've played without adjusting for difficulty settings is probably Demon's Souls (to no one's surprise).

Adjusting for difficulty, Devil May Cry 3 on Dante Must Die. That can fuck off.

Hardest game I've completed without adjusting for difficulty is...well, objectively speaking, Hitman 2, since I can't do that game very stealthilly due to the dodgy AI.

Hardest game I've completed adjusting for high difficulty settings is probably Resident Evil 5 on solo Professional.

Trying to win (1st place) every Motorstorm 2 race made me hurl my controller at my t.v. GT5 is just as awful, they even made NASCAR annoying.

Ikaruga without a doubt. I downloaded it on Xbox Arcade thinking it'd be a pushover for some easy gamerscore. Boy, was I wrong...

Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior on the PS2.

The levels leading up to, say, Descent are hard enough, but Convergence. JESUS CHRIST. It throws two fucking Chaos Terminators at you which are walking tanks with rocket launchers, machine guns and grenade launchers. When one appears, all hope is lost.
You can barely kill one before 10 minutes later, another one pops up. The fucking Chaos Raptors will fuck you up, too. And the Chaos Marines with their fucking Chaos Bolters...I've tried to complete this bastard level over 25 times. The first Chaos Terminator is hard enough, but the second appears in a room with no ammo and barely any extra health.
In fact, ever since it introduced the Chaos aspect, the difficulty curve has since shot up at a 90 degree angle, done a loop-de-loop backwards, violently raped the start of the curve, transcended time and space and become something else entirely. It's fucking ridiculous.

And this is only on Normal difficulty.

Anyway, I'd say IWBTG takes second place, after a certain roguelike: ADOM, or Ancient Domains Of Mystery.

*clenches fist* ADOM.. My thoughts on a few Roguelikes are as follows- Nethack will kill you if you screw up, but you always have a chance. Angband is half assedly trying to kill you. ADOM wants you dead and will feed off your sweet delicious tears.

I loved that Nethack was always pretty fair, there was very little you couldn't avoid if you thought strategically. ADOM has none of that, it's just completely fucking unfair, and anyone who gets a special ending without reading a spoiler is a fucking liar.

Kudos on beating Crawl though. I'm playing around with Stone Soup, it's proving.. frustrating.

Oh good, someone knows about that game. And to be fair, ADOM has one thing in its favour.

Its sheer amount of spite is remarkably amusing if you're just watching. Other than that, I admit, very little.
