THE GAME!

OT: Devil May Cry 3 on Dante Must Die difficulty. It took me two hours to get past the second level, I eventually gave up on the third level. I know its not the hardest game in existence but it's the hardest I have played.

X-Com: UFO Defense, hell even on easy that game was nigh impossible. Just...yea, wow.

Honorable mentions!
Modern Warfare 2 on Veteran, just because of that goddamn Favela level. Seriously, whoever that was a good idea should just go die in a fire.

Do you mean Damon's Soles?
where Matt Damon kills people by chucking shoe soles at them? That's deep stuff.

OT: Advance Wars. Never finished it. As for other games i find hard: Just lower the difficulty. i don't play games to measure dicks, so i CAN.

I've tried it. Grand Prix Legends is harder.
There's a difference though between a game being difficult because it is terribly designed and a game being difficult because it is brilliantly designed. Grand Prix Legends falls in the former category and IWBTG falls in the latter.

But yeah, IWBTG is easily one of the hardest games, and definitely the most challenging one mentioned thus far.

Touhou 11: Subterranean Animism. FUCK YOU ORIN!
a bit off-topic, but;

How hard is that game compared to Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil?
hmm id say easier myself,

but this could be due to the fact i couldnt see half of eosd's bullets due to colour blindness. bloody bats, i need an UMBRELLA thats all i got to say on that one. (cookie for reference)

now for some hard games,

hmmm

battletoads and iwbtg are hard if you dont know the insta kill spots, but then again thats just arsehole hard, if you understand my turn of phrase.
The real mario 2 nearly made me brake a controller in frustration so i guess that counts, still i bet it later on, hell no am i going on a new adventure princess now if you will excuse me.

i would mention some bullet hell shmups which are much harder than touhou...... but... well there memorization games at that level.
hellsinker
zillionbeats (try playing that one on the highest difficulty, you will not survive) (well you will survive but not without credit spaming)
and many others which to be honest will take a few minutes to get the spelling of the names right and well to be honest i cant be bothered with it, so insert list here.

Has anyone heard of Devil May Cry 3? It's practically impossible to beat it on its hardest difficulty mode, due to the fact that enemies get God-like super-armor if you dont kill them within 5 seconds after they spawn. Plus, if you're really a perfectionist, try getting anything higher than a C rating on each mission. Also, some of the bosses, while having predictable patterns, had totally unfair health recharging that migh as well make you kill them three times in a row on a single life.

As for everything else that was mentioned, Demon's Souls is pretty brutal, but again can be mentally conquered with a pen and paper to write down where everything spawns. And Im honestly surprised to see so many votes for WaW. Sure, it was practically unplayable garbage on Veteran because apparently it's standard issue for German and Japanese soldiers to carry 658 grenades and throw 12 of them at a time, as well as having kamikazees ruah you every five seconds, but I didnt find it to be much worse than Modern Warfare's campaign on Veteran.

Oh, and fuck Guitar Hero III. The final guitar duel was bullshit: it took all of the skill out of the game and replaced it with complete random luck, as well as making the eighth tier songs completely unfucking playable for anyone looking for a casual challenge.

Ys Seven on Nightmare. You take off like 7 hit points on bosses that have about 5000 HP. Oh and you only have about 120 Hp and they take off around 30 HP each hit. Add to that you have essentially NOTHING (no potions or revival potions) at the beginning of that game and you are required to have long ass boss fights and not get hit at all.

It took a lot out of me beating the FIRST boss.

Oh don't worry, you get restorative items later, and just wait till you get to some of the later bosses. That fucking Bird on top of the Wind Precinct, The Earth Dragon, and Second Form of the Moon Dragon are total assholes. Ys7 from what I've managed to gather is arguably the EASIEST in the series and I can see why.

You should try Ys3: Oath In Felghana, it's supposedly the hardest in the series and boy does it show. You just have Adol the whole time, and you don't get restorative items during boss battles. The final boss on nightmare is well....a nightmare. The other bosses will kick your ass rather thoroughly as well.

Can't wait for 1&2 chronicles to give me an ass whooping :p

Bah. Yukari's worse.

Anyway, I'd say IWBTG takes second place, after a certain roguelike: ADOM, or Ancient Domains Of Mystery.

No game hates its players quite as much - something which I feel quite confident in saying, having finished both of the above games (also Crawl and Nethack, so I do have other games in the genre to compare it to).

I guess Demon's Souls.
I got it on the 28th of December.

It is a difficult game, but once you know where enemies are and what their attacks are like, it isn't as difficult.

And the bosses...
They can be VERY difficult.
Like I said above, after you know what their attacks are like, it isn't as difficult, but it is still difficult.
Firestorm on 5-1/5-2 bosses = instant win!

I assume that my "new game +" will be mostly cake thanks to it and my Fragrent Ring.

MP regen, ftw!
I remember finding that ring and then after a couple hours of playing, I went to Patches back at the Nexus and saw that he was selling the same ring for 60 000 souls.
That's...kind of a rip off...

Same with that one ring that you can buy from the girl in 3-1.
I can't remember the name of the ring, but you get more Demon's Souls while wearing it.
I'm glad that I didn't buy it. I found it a little bit later on a dead body!
Hey, guess what?

Royalty class...STARTS WITH IT!
