I remember as a kid every time I'd get a new game, especially after waiting anxiously for it to be released, I could absolutely not wait to play it. Just the car ride from the store to my house was brutal. When I got home I rushed to my room, popped it in and played for a good 4 hours before even considering taking a break.

Nowadays I can get a new game, and not even play it right away. Hell, I have quite a few games that I haven't even put in the system yet due to having a massive backlog. This would be unheard of for me as a kid.

Anyways, what is the last game to give you this kind of excitement and anticipation?

I don't know the last one I played that got me that excited, but I'm pretty damn excited for TES: Skyrim.

Uhh... I still do that. Quite frequently. And I'm 23 years old.

So... yeah.

Anyway, the last game to do that for me was Alice Madness Returns. It wasn't actually that great. But I was still excited to play it.

Actually, same for me Zhukov. I even took the bus to the mall so I could get it, so I didn't have to wait for a ride. (I don't take the bus often)

For me, child-like wonder & excitement in games is fuelled by anticipation and discovery. The "What's around the next corner feeling". The last three games that delivered that emotion to me were

Motorstorm Apocalypse (new tracks, what kind of destruction will happen)
Radiant Historia (story, changes in time, new skills)
Plants vs Zombies (new seeds, minigames)

... and of course >cough< ...pokemon white ;]

Tactics Ogre for the PSP, because I already knew it was good a great oldskool remake even before I got it.

Darksiders. It had me all smiley and happy and giggling like I used to when I was little, in a psychotic, probably should get myself sectioned kind of way.

Ace Attorney Investigations. It was somewhere between too easy and insulting in terms of the actual puzzles, but dear fucking god was it funny.

Starcraft 2. I'd even go so far as to say that having 2v2 matches with one of my friends who I went to elementary school with was one of the best things of last Summer for me. I especially loved the campaign too (despite the lame story and cringe-inducing script). The branching missions, buying upgrades for my units, and challenging myself to get the achievements (which are refreshingly enough, actual challenges, as opposed to "go find # amount of random collectible crap." made the campaign a huge improvement over that of SC1. Also, those loading screens make some sweet desktop backgrounds.

I know I haven't played it yet, but after seeing the full demo from judges week of Bioshock Infinite, I turned into a little child

A few.
AVP. As a massive fan of the second game, I was doomed to get this game on release. I did, and I loved it. I still load it in every once in awhile.

Pokemon Leaf Green. At the end, I thought the national pokedex meant that a remake of Johto had been opened up. That didn't last long, but it was a good feeling while I looked for the entrance.

Dead Island. This is the game I've been saying, "Hey developers, if you do this, you'll have my money in a heartbeat." It's finally coming, and I cannot wait.

For a game to get me this excited, it has to have a connection to something I really love that originated outside the realm of video games.
The last game to do that for me was 'Transformers: War for Cybertron', and before that probably 'Batman: Arkham Asylum'.

The next game I'm awaiting with the same child-like glee is 'Warhammer 40.000: Space Marine', and have been for about 2 years now. I just know it's going to be glorious. ^^

Most recently, either Halo: Reach or Pokemon Soul Silver

But it happens pretty damn regularly, in all honesty. Not every game, but one or two have the 'ZOMG time to play all the things!' feeling about them. Arkham City is next on that list. Then Mass Effect 3

The last one was when I found Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 in the bargain bin at a game shop.

Mortal Kombat 9 because it reminded me so much of playing old games years ago. I didn't get this feeling from the last 5 games at all, but this one made me want to just continuously play it. I had to have it shipped over to a different address and I went there in a really bad storm that had me dripping wet, waited for UPS, went home and started playing it. I think I had class the next day or something.
