Fuck the idea of weapons being noobish. It's just something people say when they get killed by people and don't want to face the fact they got shot in the face.

I was thinking some sniper rifles and knifing in some games takes skill.
Well in most shooter games ive played(COD, MGS, TF2 for example)i think the sniper rifle can be quite a "non-nooby" gun depending on the situation, and it does take skill to get the perfect headshots but if you were to spawn camp in an online match with it then it would definetely be a nooby gun because barely any skill would be required. As for knives, they are too different from guns as weapons to call a nooby weapon but can take awhile to get used to.

The Auger in Resistance: Fall of Man. Sure it can shoot through walls but its rate of fire made it crap for 1-on-1 confrontation. Skilled players can still tear you apart with it though.

Pity they increased the rate of fire for Resistance 2; it's much easier to use.
idk about that I tore shit up in resistance one online with an auger you just need to use it at the right time.

True for the most part, except for situations with imbalances favoring one gun above them all.

Things like the golden gun in goldeneye, or the awp in cs, or even the M16 to a lesser degree in CoD4. They are just better than the rest, and it removes a lot of the challenge to even use them.

Odd jobs hat from James Bond nightfire.

range of about 5ft, 1 hit kill, only reloads if you can physically reach the hat.

awesome.

oh and the crossbow. Sure its 1 hit kill, but it has a slow reload and is alomost impossible to aim at a distance.

my 2 pennys

Meh, in the games I've played, I found that these stronger weapons are either extremely rare and hard to get, or have very low ammo, so that kind of evens things out in my book.

Smoker in L4D. I hate playing them, if there's no Tank or Boomer with me.
Dude, I rule as a smoker. Killed all 4 in one 1 life by myself. Other 3 members on my team were retarded and waited at the end of the level for them. They never got there ;).

As for the question: I think while they may be instant kills... nade tagging and torque bow in Gears 2 reqire some skill to pull off. You can't spam them.

I have the BF heroes 2 beta, and id say the knife. Playing as the sniper/stealth class i ALWAYS use the knife. Got a 4 kill streak once in 4 seconds off a very unatentive flag guarding team. In cod 4 i love the knife and shotguns. I also play stealth class a lot in cod4 which i think takes skill. UAV jammer and dead silence along with a silenced AK47AU make for a deadly class but its hard to use effectively.

I don't understand how anyone thinks sniper rifles are not "noob-y." They're the lamest weapon in just about any game because they allow you to attack from far away without putting yourself in harms way. It's really easy to focus on getting a headshot when there's no one around trying to shoot you in the face. Also they tend to do ridiculous amounts of damage if they're not insta kills. If anything... snipers are the "noob-y"est weapons around.

I'd agree with shotguns, or even more so melee weapons of any kind.

Also just about any weapon with an arc to its trajectory, bows and arrows or grenade launchers especially (unless the grenade launcher does tons of splash damage, than nix that).

shotguns and melee weapons in FPS´. especially the last. i killed 10 soldiers with a knife on 20 seconds in COD: WAW (was single player tho). it was quite amusing.
