any multiplayer shooter i blow myself up with grenades usually with some fancy trick shot where it bounces off five walls before landing on my head
trying to stick c4 on tanks coming right at me is another one im prone to..

in racers it would be flooring it down a long straight watching the turn come closer and wondering what im forgetting.. then smacking straight into the wall

Died by strafing off a cliff in Painkiller on E5M3 (Old Monastery) while fighting a single monk. This being the last level before the last boss fight, you'd think I would've learned to watch where I'm going by then.

During one of the final stand offs with the Chimera in Resistance 2, I was stuck in an area with a very predictable attack pattern, where precise frag grenades and shots counted to get through the area. After trying for almost an hour I lost it, and just went in, guns blazing without any cover.

It actually worked and I was so jazzed up about the accomplishment that I failed to realize that I was out of ammo and when a huge Chimera came to shoot me with a large laser, I couldn't shot it down and he gunned me down instead.

Ah... online multiplayer CoD with a friend. Stabbing each other between each wave of zombies probably didn't help.

In recent memory, Dark Souls...

No specific moment, I just seem to do stupid things for no reason in it.
could this be due to the unrelenting difficulty, and makes players feel stupid because of lack of knowledge of what to do...

disclaimer: I've never played demon's souls / dark souls
Well there is that, but I quite often will walk off an edge, roll off an edge, flip off en edge...
... lower my shield to attack, when I know I need to block.

Use the wrong item, hit the wrong button.
(the amount of times I healed instead of attacked in the beginning was ridiculous -_-)

I have a tendency to forget what I'm supposed to do, then die for it.
Hmm, I've been thinking of getting Dark Souls. I was worried it might just be a generic third person hack n'slack (albeit with ramped up challenge). How is it? What features can you highlight? What is the class system like? Is the variety of weapons good? (e.g. sidegrades as opposed to/or along with upgrades) Sorry if this is a hassle to answer.

Pretty much my early days (noob) when I first started playing Guild Wars. I didn't understand how trading work so I accidently give a stranger 500 gold's. That's not the worst thing.
One time I was in a group ready to take on this hard quest (wipe out a village full of pirates). One guy was afk (heading to the toilet). Just as he left, a player spawn into town saying he will single handily complete that quest for a group as long they pay for his service. We were chatting how much of a jerk this guy is and the afk guy return asking what's going on. I private message him about the guy until I realise I PM the wrong player and end up PM that guy charging for his service.
Needless to say I tell the group heading to the quest location already.

Took an oath to beat up/kill any minstrel who dare sing to me in assassins' creed 2
I was forced to re-play like 50 missions.
it was still worth it.

Probably in Zelda Spirit Tracks. The bit where you have to shout at the DS to get the guy to sell you something. Felt like a total tool doing that. Then the game rubs it in by saying shortly after if you just click your fingers then he gives the thing to you for free. But that's what I was supposed to do so I guess it doesn't count.

In Assassin's Creed Brotherhood I thought you had to sell the rare treasure things to the shop keeper in order for it to count towards collecting them all to unlock the awesome armour. Instead, I was just throwing them all away and pretty much denied myself the best armour in the game. Would have been helpful if the game told me I wasn't supposed to do that.

In GTA IV when doing a road race, I had a brain-fart and momentarily though I was playing Midnight Club: Los Angeles and pressed 'Y' to look behind me... but instead I commanded Niko to get out of the car at over 120mph.

Still, the workings of the Ephuroia engine were a joy to behold as rag-doll Niko bounced along the road, rear ended a slower moving car with his face, then got launched into the air and off the bridge by the racer in second place.

In Amnesia: the Dark Descent, I see the monster go down one so I go into a room and wait for him to go away. I think I'm really clever while still facing the door. Then I think "hey why is the music changing?". I turn around and nearly piss myself as I try to run away only to forget that the door that I just came through opens inwards and not outwards. I barely escape with any health and with crap in my bowels nearly escaping to my pants.

It turns out the way the monster went loops back around to the room I hid in and if I had just taken 2 seconds to check the room I would not have had to gotten up and personal with Mr. Smiley

In Halo 3 ODST, I accidentally shot my Firefight partner from across the map attempting to snipe a Hunter. It turns out I only grazed it but it went through the back anyway and hit my partner IN THE FACE!

We couldn't stop watching the replay.

A few hours ago I was playing civilization 3 and instead of building a city with my first settler I killed him... I didn't win that game if you can believe it.

Oblivion, I was sneaking around an underground castle with my stealth character, I open a chest and find the mother of all spells for my character, a spell that delivered instant death from a single touch. Spent a good amount of time going around killing every enemy in sight *Tch* *Crushed by rocks and killed* Moral of the story... don't forget to fucking save.

At fable doesn't matter which one but mostly at fable 1, everytime when I got bored I picked a fight in any of the towns and then slaughter all the guards that tryed to kill me, it took em always so long to get me down (and then I started an old safe file and do it again) mwhahahahahahaha

Tony Hawks American Wasteland so often I would say "one more trick I can land it... FUCK!"
I can't recall the sheer amount of times I've done this.

It's a similar story in both of the Arkham games

"I can just land one more hit, before that knife guy tries to- BASTARD!"

I don't play many games like this, so I wouldn't know if it's 'generic'.
The online PvP and co-op is interesting, when you can get it to work.
Class system only really determines how and what you start with.
Weapon variety is epic, the upgrade options are insane...
Exploration is fun. If you care to find and listen to the NPCs, the story is decent.

I can recommend it.
