formatted the wrong fucking HDD trowing away all my savegames all my installs all my ISO's (and don't do like you don't have any clue what i am talking about) and my pictures of family and friends were also gone. does not matter who needs friends :p
It was not during the game but it still sucked anyway
How the hell did you manage that?!

When I reformat, I get so paranoid about which drive is which that I'll often cancel before and go back into the still-intact OS and check! It scares the crap outta me.

Seriously bad luck though. Wow. O.O

spent a couple hours traversing the wasteland and killing everything in Evergreen Mills. Then the game froze.
On fallout 3?
Aye, Fallout 3. Probably shoulda mentioned that...
Well, it's hardly likely he did the same thing in real life.

I was playing Portal on my 360, trying to get "least steps" in one of the test chambers. The funny thing was, the physics were all out of whack, and storage cubes and sentries were bobbing through the floor like they were floating in water. I finally get a gold medal and get the achievement for getting bronze medals in all the chambers, when the game shuts down. I load it up again, to find that all my progress has been cleared and I have to do all the chambers over again, except for the one I had just completed. Weird thing though, all my save files were still there.

Picture this scene:

Me:Yes! I've beaten the no-save challenge on Pokémon:Silver! Now I just have to wait for the credits to finish rolling and preserve this save for ever!

Sister's Friend's Cousin:Look at me, I'm sliding on the floor in my socks!*crash*

If that picture isn't complete enough: She slammed into me, I dropped the Gameboy, the batteries fell out, much screaming, cousin found in a dumpster two weeks later.

It was the day third day of Gears of War 2's release. The very first day it came out, I had played it and gotten about halfway through the campaign at a friend's house with my data saved on my memory card. On the second day, I bought the game myself. On the third day of its release, I brought it to a different friend's house. I let him place the disc into his Xbox 360 console. We watched the opening cutscene to the campaign, since my friend had never seen it before. Three seconds after it started, the disc froze. I took it out. It had a huge ring right around the center hole of the disc. I bought a new one at the mall the next day. I came home and put the disc in to finally finish the campaign. My data was gone, and I was $120 poorer within 4 days of the game's release.

i was playing CoD 3 when i decided i want to see what my Xbox looks like right side up..while the game was running. i tilted it up and a grinding sound occurred. So i decided to put back across and the grinding sound happened again. it scratched the disc all the way through and i could get past the intro without getting a disc error. So my buddy at the arcade gave me the best scratch remover. it removed the scratches, but did not fix the problem. so i traded it in for $30 to Gamestop.
Something similar happened to me. I was playing Command & Conquer 3 and I was near the completion of a rather difficult NOD mission, towards the end of the NOD campaign. It was a Tuesday, so the maid was at my house. She walked into the room, proceeded to lift the Xbox off of its side ever so slightly to dust off the glass counter thing that it was sitting on and... well, nothing happened. So I decided to save and go get something to eat. I came back and when I tried to load that mission and THAT MISSION ONLY, the game would freeze everytime. I had to go back to the beginning of the Act (I believe it was Act IV), thus losing all of my saved data, which included all levels finished w/ Bonus Ribbons.

Going for 2 hours in Mass Effect without saving, only to be obliterated by a Thresher Maw because I forgot.
Stupid.

Playing Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX on my GameBoy Color at my friend's house when his dog walks up to me. I looked up for a minute and he bites the GameBoy, pulling the game out, and denting the screen.

The day after I beat jak 3 my memory card wiped itself. I lost years of games and had to start about 10 games all over again.

You could've recovered it by doing a deep scan. They're pretty simple but take a ridiculessly long time to do.

I was playing CoD4 for the first time when my 1st ps3 died. I blamed the game because my system was fine before i tried to play CoD. Oh and then there was the time when i turned on my 2nd ps3 and it wouldn't load up any of the icons and was stuck on that wavy line. Oh and when i turned on my 3rd ps3 to find out that all my data magically disappeared. Oh and when a faulty demo disc deleted two memory cards worth of ps2 data.
Ah fuck it, there are too many things for me to list.

Discovered a leak in my watercooling at 3am while trying to finish a map.
After a long hike through half the town to get distilled water from the next gas station I was able to continue it... just to find out soon later, that I forgot to reconnect the pumps power supply *bzzz bzzz* and PC went up in smoke...
Saved games didn't like it either.

Beat Guitar Hero II on Expert and was trying to go through the campaign getting 5 gold stars on everything and then it lost my save file. I love it when that happens.

Me and a friend were playing on the one level where tons of those spiders come out of the doors after opening the empty chest, we were both by the box and both of us had Hydras fired at the same time basically the ps3 crashed, i've been afraid of firing that shotgun ever since.

After playing Fallout 3 for a while Ive come across several locations that just refuse to load. One such location is the friendly ant hill, I went in once and cant go back. The big one however is the one subway system that has the recipe for better mole rat meat. I fought my way in, scavenged what I could find, and stumbled across the notecard regarding the meat. Feeling satisfied I tried to leave the room/tunnel, upon doing so however the entire game glitched up horribly. My weapons and armor randomly vanished, me or dogmeat just died randomly, and then the game crashed, several times. For whatever reason I had a save file from just before entering the area, I loaded that and tried again......the game cant even load the map now. Great, just bloody great
