They're called noob weapons because 'even a noob' could use them and win.

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying a truly talented player would, instead of running around with a rocket&sword like a noob, or a BR and shotty like an average guy, would carry a sniper rifle and quickly score headshots before the otehr guy could do much damage.

I never said anything about using shitty weapons indicating l33tness, itt just indicates stupid. I sad that some weapons can be far more devastating than classic n00b guns, but require more skill to use.

so if i was useing a rocket launcher as a last resort and using my normal weapons dual spikers im a noob? now you jsut sound like an ***hole

I personally don't like how the Plasma Pistol combo is called the 'noob combo'. Yes, I understand that the Plasma Pistol charge attack is an easy way to lower someone's shields leaving them open for their health to be whittled away. But if you are clever enough to think of using the combo, and can use it successfully; then I say you are a skilled player, very likely better than I am.

a weapon by my standards becomes unfair when it has some kind of magical power attached to it and it becomes the "ultimate" weapon in the game
Exactly what I mean. The sword as it was when they released Halo 2. xD The only counters for it were staying far away and sniping (not possible on 2/3 of the maps) or using a shotgun in the split second before it maimed you. There was only one shotgun on the map by default, and if you messed this up you lost it, because the sword guy would invariably take that too.

Exactly what i think, yet people cannot seem to fallow this simple logic....
How do people leave a plowed field lying idle with logic? In all reality, there are some guns that do not require you to aim, or you can get a kill just by spamming it. Rocket Launchers and grenades are two examples.

A starhole?

And you already know the answer to that question. Don't be a moron, man.

Sirlin.net has a lot of interesting ideas about how to make a game "balanced". I'd say that's a good place to start, but to me, a weapon or tactic is only unfair if its strengths severely outweigh its weaknesses such that such that there is no viable counter-strategy. A tactic that is "broken" oversimplifies the game and refocuses it around using or countering that tactic. If all available weapons have a purpose, and those situations of purpose occur frequently enough in the gameplay, you have a fairly balanced game.

Of course, you should adjust your tactics depending on the terrain of the map you're playing on and the game should be smart enough to not spawn map-inappropriate weapons. Fighting games have a harder time with balance, as you are locked into a limited set of options once you select a fighter; the is no changing weapons.

Thoughts?
From what i'm getting you sound about right to me.
Such as would it be considered to use the sniper rifle as opposed to the battle rifle if the terrain was right? maybe people consider weapons "noobish" when They them self do not have the correct weapon or skill necessary to defeat the other player wielding the so called "unfair" weapon.

Just play Unreal Tournament Insta-Frag Deathmatch. Everyone is given a laser with infinite ammo that kills in one shot. If anything's hilariously unfair, that is, but it's too damn fun for anyone to care about fairness.

have you ever tried to actually KILL someone with a frag in halo?! if they have shields its bloody impossible with the first throw! and the rocket launcher really isnt that big of a threat just jump, its that easy, just like dodgeing all the vehicles, and most other weapons, halo weapons locker is actualy balanced, even thou it doesnt look like it sometimes
and if it is in the game, then yeah its fair, and you cant do much about it now can you

besides, if the grenade does kill you oh well get around it, you have a brain.......right....

And? your point is what?
Nay, i reverse the insult. if it is you that is complaining about the use of a "unfair" weapon then YOU are the noob. get you shit together and use all of your "l33tness" that you obviously have to kill the "noob" with the "noob-cannon" obviously you are so much superior that you need not the assistance of such weapons, no?

I never referred to a gun as "noobish" or a "noob weapon" but I have said a few times that a few guns are overpowered.

The sword in Halo 2 was overpowered. Along with the pistol from Halo 1. It might as well have been a mini sniper rifle.

Some melees are over powered as well like the slide kick in FEAR. I never said people were noobs for using it, but I did think that for what it was it was way too over powered.

Essentially, if you and a few others are holding close combat weapons and another player has a rocket launcher you will call unfair and whine that the player is not 'being fair'. Its just annoyance that someone found the good gun before you did. Guns have their advantages and disadvantages. You get good at games by learning these.

Only idiots say that certain weapons are unfair. If someone has a rocket launcher, you need to get as close to them as possible, you either take them out, they take you out, or a just as good scenario, he fires the rocket and you both die from the explosion. Problem solved.

Someone has a sniper rifle? No problem. Sneak round them and shoot them from behind, learn the level if needed but do not complain. Its just a game. Lose with dignity.

Very good, but you should not complain (not saying you do) merely use it to your advantage, no?

Exactly, rely on skill. not saying dump the weapons, just combined weapons and skill.

Call me crazy, but I think the W1200 with a grip was ridiculously overpowered in CoD4. For those of you who don't remember, it was the pump action shotgun.

If you take it with stopping power, it essentially became a really long melee knife (thats what she said) that instakilled anyine whithin 20 feet of you. It's fucking awesome.

Usually, in my opinion, most instakill rays are things like the rocket launcher in Halo and get used only by n00bs who have no skill, and consequently win. The majority of gamers would be too good to use such weapons, but not skilled enough to weild guns like said W1200 and kick ass with them, and thus end up loosing.
How can you be too good to use a particular gun? Anybody that's really good can be effective regardless what weapon he/she uses, and will make use of whatever weapon is nearby.

Thank you, that is what i am trying to say. calling somebody a noob for using a weapon is like calling a contractor a retarded for using a pneumatic air gun instead of a hammer. It just dont make any sense.

Yes, I do use them, but I try to rely more on my aiming then relying all my kills on one weapons. If I am near it, then I will pick it up and use it. I also sometimes use cheap tricks and what they call "noobish ways" to even the playing field.

Most of the time I try to push myself to try and not use it so I don;t rely on it. If I do pick up a strong weapon, I wait to a point when I really need it. I also like to get the last laugh and take the other person with me if I know I am going to die.

Exactly. that does not make you a "noobish" player. it makes you a Smart player. a good player.
