What is wrong with kids today.

Kids today have no discipline. Back when I was being raised, if you complained or did anything wrong, you got beaten. That's how it was and it straightened kids up right. Taught them to be thick skinned.

Now we branded proper discipline as "abuse" and as a result, kids today are turning up so wimpy. So much so that bullying of all things is a PROBLEM. Bullying was never a problem back in my day. Problems were things like having enough food to eat, paying the rent, making sure you had clothes, etc. Not being name called. Now more often than ever, I see kids still living with their parents even after they turn 16. Which is a sign that kids are getting dumber, lazier and thinner skinned.

We even invented a new BS "disease" called depression to make pathetic kids feel better and sell placebos. Depression never occurred when I was a lad because our "depression" was beaten out of us and we became fine young men.

We need to reverse this process. Do you agree?

Ooooohhh look, a 'kids these days....' thread, haven't seen one of those in a while. Have you considered it might actually be parents these days or society these days??? Or are kids supposed to apologise that they don't have to worry about going hungry????

EDIT: Ninja Daystar strikes again!! And I also thought it might be a troll thread, but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt :p

I'm serious. Why wouldn't I be? The state of today's society is pitiful to a point where kids can't even take being name called.

You don't think that's a problem?

You're right. Parents and society as a whole share most of the blame. It's not the kids' fault their parents don't know how to raise children properly.(Or they do know how but they're too chicken **** to do it.)

Certainly none of things you've mentioned, that's for sure.

I was never beaten, I was simply slapped on the thigh.

Reprimanding a child with a slight shock isn't the same as going to town on them with a belt.

I came into a kids these days thread hoping it was addressing the actual legitimate difference in youth today that was the result of our mass marketing consumer culture. You know how the term "tween" only existed a few years ago? You see how the age group of tweens gets shorter every year?

But no, just somebody saying that people who live with their parents past 16 (You have to be 18 to own real estate as far as I know here) are terrible and that depression doesn't exist.

A slap on the thigh? Kids will never get the point from that. You need to teach them the true consequences of ****ing up if you want them to learn how to a productive member of society.

Yes, because I remember that when I made a mistake, a huge man came out of nowhere and beat the shit out of me.

Well if you realise the "problem" why do you ask in the title what's wrong??? Also, thinking that hitting a child is good parenting is silly. It might be easy parenting (and I doubt that) but it isn't good parenting...

And as asked above how old are you meant to be anyway??? >.>

The kids are the unfortunate result of society going wrong somewhere and causing everyone to become pansies.

I don't hate kids today, I feel sorry for them. They could have been raised better but they didn't.

Explain Pansies to me, is it at all possible that the past's ignorance merely let the problems of yesterday's children go unnoticed? You say depression was invented. It wasn't, it has been a pertinent problem for generations. We didn't invent it, we discovered it. Now we know that the kid sulking over there is suicidal and mentally unwell instead of calling him a loser who just needs to get normal.

Taking the Gurren Lagann approach of punching your friends to cure their depression isn't the smartest plan.

Well, I guess what I'm really asking is: How'd we get to this point? Why? It was working just fine before. Why change what was just fine? And no, parenting is never easy.

I prefer not to disclose my age on the internet.

So if kids today don't need to be beaten, then maybe it's because they're better behaved than kids several decades ago were.

Anyway, I sort of hope this is a troll. Because otherwise I don't really know where to begin.

Fair enough, well, I've stopped giving you the benefit of the doubt now. Good luck 'fixing' today's youths <.<

bullying was never a problem in my day
Yes it was. http://thealbanyjournal.com/2011/06/bulling-in-the-1950s/

What? Kids stay at home to further their education until 18, then they go to university, in fact the majority of kids I know that left school at 16 still live with their parents, because they got a local job that doesn't pay enough to buy their own property. I'm guessing not many kids moved out of their parents houses at 16 "in your day?". Who could afford the rent when in your own words, they were worrying about starving to death and running out of clothes to wear?!?

We even invented a new BS "disease" called depression to make pathetic kids feel better and sell placebos. Depression never occurred when I was a lad because our "depression" was beaten out of us and we became fine young men.
Because depression only ever occurs in young lazy teenagers, it's not like mature people could ever get depression, like... say mothers that have just given birth-OH SNAP! [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-natal_depression]

My parents did the same thing. Hired my Uncle Lester to do it. I didn't like him very much.

When I was ten, I got sent home from school with a note from my teacher, so my parents dressed up a hobo as Santa Claus, shot him in the face in front of me, and told me it was my fault Santa was dead.

Kids these days aren't getting that proper type of parenting, I'll tell you what.

Try teaching consequences to a 4 year old who picks her nose while she talks to people. Some kids are DUMB, and words/speaking are just to yell and get what you want, not to listen. A spanking is understood by lower animals, it will not fail on a 4 year old.

It's not a life lesson unless someone gets shot in the face.
