What is your current contender for game of the year?

So far? It's between Dragon Age 2 and Portal 2. I'd go with DA2 because I'll get more lasting value out of it. But that's not likely to stick with Skyward Sword, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Skyrim, and Uncharted 3 on the way. All four of those games...in the same month. Geez. Hate on my wallet some more, game developers. There goes my beer money...and my bourbon money...and my sushi money...and my shampoo money.

For me it is Outland. It is easily the best metroidvania style game in a long time

I didn't get a Metroidvania vibe from that game, there wasn't really any exploration. It was a pretty linear experience.

OT: At the moment it's Catherine, but none of my most anticipated titles have come out yet.

The Witcher 2 is the best game I've played that was released this year. It would be nice to see a game from a smaller dev studio win some GOTY awards... but it's got some serious competition coming in the next few months.

That I've played so far this year, L.A Noire, its the one I've most thoroughly enjoyed and haven't even finished it yet, to me its awsome and beats everything else so far.

But I say "so far" because theres a lot of big titles coming so I reserve final judgement till December 31st at 23:59

Probably Catherine. The game was so unique and so interesting. The story was amazing and really deep. The gameplay was fun even though I found it confusing at a few points, but it was never hard for me. I don't know what everyone else is saying.

Of what I've played, I'm going to say either Portal 2 or Sanctum. Probably Sanctum since I've put more time into it than the multiple playthroughs of P2, and it's a far shorter game.

Edit: oh yeah, Terraria is nice too. I passed it off as a shameless Minecraft clone, but it's good in it's own right.

I found that I've been playing more older games than anything, and currently the most fun I've had is Hitman Blood Money.

It's pretty obvious Skyrim will win for me, but so far I'm gonna have to go with LA Noire, mearly because it was decent and one of the only games I've played this year.
