The first is a Caduceus, it is an ancient symbol for alchemy, the later is the Rod of Asclepius the symbol for medicine.

Normally I'm skeptical of such things and look into, with macabre fascination, the fairy tales people once held, as a whimsical pastime.
We're clearly going to have to suspend disbelief and imagine that talents magically manifest themselves as marks upon people. So obviously the logical thing to do would be to combine science and the occult to get alchemy.

Either a quill, as I'm an aspiring writer, or the more complex one, imagine those rings of three tomoe from Naruto like in the Sharingan or the Cursed Seal of Heaven, one of those but one tomoe would be blue, one would be red and the last would be yellow. I always imagine being able to conjure fire, ice and lightning, so that's why.
