Favourite 2d game has to be Odin Sphere(not sure if it's using polygons), GunBound, Liero and Worms.

It has to be Fallout 2. Actually, The Secret of Monkey Island. Or maybe Monkey Island 2. The Chaos Engine was fanastic for its time, too, and is begging for an HD makeover.

Heck, I can't commit, there are simply too many.

Hard to break it down. I will say that I was the most obsessed over Lemmings. I can't even begin to start a list of 2D games that I loved, especially with the ambiguity over the semantics of 2D sprites vs 2D platformers.

Metroid 3 (super metroid). A shining example of a solid and polished game. Absolutely incredible. Chrono Trigger is a shining example of a great 2d rpg.

Mine's also Symphony of the Night, easily. Which I didn't even play until I downloaded it on XBL. And of course tech has gone far since then, but yet I'm on like my 4th playthrough. (3rd try was Luck Mode. 4th try is best stats I'm likely to get, via picking up nothing and taking no hits in that first scene with Richter. Which took me a while) Although blah795 I think there technically ARE polygons in SotN - aren't the save coffins using 'polygons'?
