To be honest there's so many games enjoyed from back when ALL games were 2D but I can't be bothered to list them all.

I used to love playing 16 bit 2D platformers. Even if they were a little bit naff I enjoyed them. Plok, Bubsy, Chuck Rock, Joe and Mac? Amazing!

I also remember playing Final Fight, Mortal Combat, Streetfighter, and being totally blown away.

Best 2D game of all time though is Super Metroid without a doubt.
