Favorite? Any of the first six, but that's because I grew up playing them. If I was reviewing, however, IX would come out on top.

Most hated? X and everything after it. The series really started going downhill once FF hit the PS2. XIII takes the cake though. Pressing the 'A' button for 8 hours and watching pretty cut-scenes is not a game, it's just a way to make me stab myself in the ears and drink myself retarded enough to try to care about the terrible plot.

For me its a tie between final fantasy 3/6 and final fantasy 12.

FF3/6 was the first one i played back on the ye olde SNES and it blew my mind at the time, awesomely epic story and character and you actually fail in your save the world mission about half way through :). FF12 because it was something different for me, I liked the slightly less epic and more personal story and loved the gambit combat system :)

Least fave, final fantasy 8, terribad graphics, piss poor mish mash story, awful magic system and the fucking card game. I gave it about 12 hours and then said fuck it, ejected it from the ps2 and its sat gathering dust ever since.

Final Fantasy IX is my favourite. The perfect Final Fantasy; it did everything that a Final Fantasy game should do (and not to mention, Sakaguchi pretty much said it's the definitive game of the series).

Least favourite is probablyyy Final Fantasy XIII. I think everyone can guess why.

I didnt like FF VII. I dont know why, but I just never got into it (though I was abit late, like, two months after its release, to playing it) and everyone saying how aeris died was such a huge deal probably killed it for me.

However I liked FF III and VI, because they seemed the most balanced and perfect of the series.

Of the FFs I have played (7, 8, 9, 10), my favourite was probably VII, although only just, and possibly only because it caught me when I was young. I despised VIII, loved IX with a passion, and thought X was decent.

X was the first I played when I was old enough for me to remember any of it, the ones I'd played before it were I through IV, but I was so young I remember very little of the experiences (Other than that they were fun, but I was a bit crap)
Bought VII when it came on PSN and enjoyed the heck out of it and bought X-2 and XIII, didn't like those so much...

So favourite would have to be X (sorry guys!) and least favourite X-2 :p

IX is my favourite, because it is the perfect Final Fantasy game (well, as perfect as it can be).

Story, great. Setting, great. Gameplay, great. Characters, great (especially Vivi and Eiko).

Honourable mentions: XII, Tactics and VI were all great games too.

Least favourite: Not including XI and XIV, probably XIII.

FF7. It was my first EVER RPG and i loved it. The materia system i thought was great. FF8 was great aswell, loved the story but hated the battle system. FF9 was meh. FF10 i enjoyed. FF12 and 13 i did not finish. They lost their roots in my opinion.

Favourite - Final Fantasy X, perhaps one of the only FF's(FF6 is possibly the only other one) where I didn't hate atleast one of the characters. The story was good, and you felt connected to the world and how they wanted to save it. The ending in my opinion was one of the series' bests too. T'was a shame X-2 sort of ruined that ending.

Least Favourite - Final Fantasy XII. I didn't really like the combat system, the licence grid, or the fact you had to buy gambits to be able to use them. Also the sound quality was really iffy, it sounded like the characters were talking into a tin can or something. But I think what really did it for me was the pacing. There was stretches of around 6 hours where there wasn't any cutscenes or story, and when you don't like the gameplay, well that becomes a problem. I mean I thought the story was pretty good really, it's just the pacing ruined it. To top it off, you could tell Vann and Penelo were added in at the last minute. They were pretty much just there for the ride. Especially Penelo.

Favorite is Final Fantasy Tactics. Intelligent story, limitless combinations for your troops, an actual sense of difficulty, etc. It's the only game I actually did all the secrets for and did the grind to get my characters up to max level.
That was definitely my favorite as well. Just something about creating your own army out of a rather impressive array of classes was so damn fun.

XIII. Not only was it the only one I was any good at, I found the characters and story the most interesting out of all the others I've played. The fighting system was nice and simple too, but still got complex enough to be interesting in some of the harder fights.
Plus, even the die-hard FFXIII haters can't deny the graphic quality.

EDIT:
Whup, forgot my least favourite.
You'll have to excuse my horrible reasoning, but VIII. The tutorial was just a bunch of boxes I couldn't follow and the combat itself was so dull I couldn't play past 15 minutes of the game.
Didn't feel worth getting into.

FF6 was my favorite because of:
<- This Guy.
The most bad ass villain in Final Fantasy

FF13 is my least favorite. I just couldn't stand the linearity and the battle system, while it was cool at first, got boring buy the boss. And after the boss when you get "sidequests" just gave you a bunch of hunt missions.

Favorite: VI. It was pretty much a masterpiece in every way.

Least favorite: 4 Heroes of Light. It may have been the only FF game where I never, at any point, had anything remotely resembling fun or enjoyment. I didn't even make it halfway.

My favorite FF game would be FF IX. It is, in my opinion, the greatest FF game there is, mixing up the old games with the new, has great characters, awesome music, good plot, and lots of other stuff. ^^

My least favorite, after rethinking it a bit, would have to be FF XIII. The only good thing about it that I could find was Sazh and possibly the music. I didn't like that battles were on auto, the summons were a bit boring, all the characters except Sazh weren't all that interesting and there's probably some other stuff, but I can't remember at the moment.

Favorite is VII of course, but only by a little, and least favorite is XIII. I still like it, and it's still way ahead on the goodness scale of all the games I've played, but lowest in the little section where the FF games are.
