Well I love to play RTS-es, I try almost every single one of them and dork out to master the single player, and I just have a blast with it.

Then there is the multiplayer... oh dear god are there some freaky people to be found, Starctaft especially, dudes know every map, every click, every number of every second, and every move they need to make... and that is where I give up, I am a decent player but online I admit being a total newbie.

I'm good at RTS games. Like, I am competant at most I've tried.

But oh, how I suck at platformers and puzzle games. I love them - I have so many of them. But I rarely finish any because I suck so much at them...

I'm with the OP. Fighting games.

I fucking suck at them and I always will but I love them to death, for whatever reason. I must be a masochist >>

RTSs.
I love them but online matches are too frantic for me to compete; I do fine in campaigns, though. Not to say I can't play at a frantic pace, I'm great at UT2K4, I just can't play RTSs well that way.

RTSes definately. I'm not completley awful at StarCraft or StarCraft 2, but I'm far from good...

Music games. I was going to say Fighting games but I got pretty good at Soul Calibur 2 and SSBM/SSBB back in the day.

I really do suck at DJ Hero. I can 5 star Hard mode, but the last few songs fuck me up.

Like a lot of people have mentioned: RTS's. I'm OK, can usually hold my own against the hardest AI setting on most games I play (C&C:RA2, WH40K, SupCom etc.) but I, like so many before me, suck against humans for the simple reason that as an OCD, my base has to be nice and symmetrical and formed in a specific way. Can only be pulled off when you can predict the enemy.

Oh, and I don't want to sound whiney, but the Total War series are *not* RTS's! They're part TBS and part RTT. Can't wait for Shogun...

Haha. FPS I would say, there's a lot of good FPS that I really like but I have to admit that I am really terrible at them. Haha.

I'm afraid I have to go with RTS... like everyone else. After months of playing various RTS games, I was totally blown away when I won a game of Starcraft in an epic 2-hour long battle. It was immensely rewarding, but I was playing against the computer, which, I suspect, I may have accidentally ruined its strategy.
The problem is that when I think of 'strategy', I think of chess and Risk, and other games where you can sit and think for hours, whereas with any RTS you need to move insanely quickly and you've got hardly any time for strategising because you need to expand your lines, produce troops, and do a million other tasks to give yourself an edge. I love the idea of strategy games, but unless I can sit there in a turn-based scenario and think things out, I'm totally rubbish at them.

Other genres? Well, I'm generally crappy at most games, but I'm especially rubbish at adventure games. My logic just doesn't run like most peoples', so I'll often be running around a room for twenty minutes looking for a complex answer when a glaringly obvious one is staring me in the face. I actually dismiss the solutions on the grounds that they couldn't possibly be that simple!

So yeah. Nothing original there, but at least I've hopefully tried to explore the reasons behind them.

Fighting games.

I lack the dedication to sit down for hours and memorize combos, and their execution.

The combo itself is easy to memorize, the perfect execution is the hard part.

None of that matters when I Genesic Emerald Tager Buster away more than half of your health, though.
