Overthrown by Arsis. Brilliant stuff.
Anything by Necrophagist or Dissection is hard to pass on as well.
Throw in some Nevermore or Yngwie and you've got a good mix of metal XD

Favorite song: hmmm probably either Detox or The Wrong Side

If anyone hasn't heard this band, do yourself a favour and check em out! They are beyond awesome and one of the most insanely heavy but melodic bands around. I love em. They're also one of the few metal bands that aren't afraid to poke fun at themselves!

The wrong side: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rMzit6DZrg

Detox: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UOOKx-ClQw&feature=related
I love SYL, got played by and signed gene hoglan drum sticks XD

I will get a cyber slap for this but punk beats metal everytime
It is an opinion so no one should really slap you for it (but I wouldnt be suprised if some does).
Punk was and is a big part of metal! with out it we wouldnt have bands like iron maiden, metallica, napalm death etc etc... and alot of metal is basically a punk, metal cross over. So im sure you can find a metal band that has all the ellements in it that you like it punk :)

I have to say metal seems like it is alot broader of a genre than punk though, so that is why I would put it down being a better genre...
Well said, though I cant agree about the "better genre" bit personally. And you're right about the crossover, bands such as Comeback Kid, Sick Of It All, Hatebreed, Terror etc come under the title "hardcore", which is basically metal with punk lyrics.

By the way, if you or anyone else haven't heard this song (and your fans of death metal) then check this out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nuuq47hYn1Y
If that link doesn't work then go onto Youtube.com and type in "Black Dahlia Murder A Vulgar Picture"
Its my favourite metal song by a long way (though you probably dont want to know what the song is about - it's hardly a charming subject).

I feel I should clear up the issue about the punk vs metal. Although I prefer punk to metal, it doesn't mean that I dont care for other music. My library goes from punk to jazz to country to metal to a little softer sorts of rock and the variation continues :)

True legends, Maiden. hard to belive they're still able to do what they do after all these years and still be the world's best (bar none) live act.

Trying to pick a favorie Maiden song though... oh jesus... where to begin... Hallowed be thy name? Phantom of the Opera? Nomad? Be Quick or be Dead? The Evil that Men DO? AAAAAAAAAAAA

I'm seeing a disturbing list of bands on here that aren't really metal. Don't get me wrong, some are ok, but they aren't metal. As far as current favorite metal song, and this is in the Violence/Noise metal category, but, Recorded Inside a Pyramid by Daughters. All time favorite metal band would have to be Carcass.

Hurray! Somebody said SOAD.

My personal Favourite is

Maximum The Hormone - Zetsubou Billy.
I love you.

Anywho, my favourite band and song is really situational. Right now, favourite band would either be Maximum the Hormone or Alice in Chains.

Favourite songs of the moment:

Slipknot - Duality
Man in the Box - Alice in Chains
Fear Factory - Shock
System of a Down - BYOB
Nine Inch Nails - Closer
Opeth - The Grand Conjuration
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

K, maybe I went a BIT overboard.

I know, Im so happy I saw them live :) it was funny because not long after I saw Judas Priest and they seemed so ooold (this was recently)... when you look at maiden and they are so full of energy the differnce was amazing, considering there isnt alot difference in age.

no way I could pick a fav song... I just couldnt do it >.<

Thanks, yeah metal isnt even close to the only genre I listen too, I love miles davis for one thing (his be-pop stuff, not his newer stuff), he is easily in my top 5 artists list...

But everyone has what they like, I like metal better, you like punk :) seems fair enough to me!

System of a Down, some people don't think they're punk, but some people are in vegetative states too, so I take everything with a grain of salt.

Another Metallica. My song is Four Horsemen
It's not Metallica's song, they ripped Mustaine off and you know it :p All they did was add a crappy bridge and slowed it down. Don't get me wrong, I love old Metallica.
Yes, I know it's a "rip off". But it happens to be my favorite song of theirs.

No offense intended. Just my opinion =)
