Does Hot shot count although I think those are more of a spoof movie.

Ok how about The Last Action Hero? Yes I like that film as a kid.

Shaun of the Dead.
Not quite for me, it's gotta be Hot Fuzz. Shaun got a little weird nearer the end, but Fuzz had an awesome gunfight :D
To each is own, I just personally thought that Shaun was funnier. Really liked Fuzz as well but felt some of the shootout scenes dragged on a bit and the gore kind of felt out of place.

Black Dynamite, although Hot Fuzz comes in a close second.
You can blame Dr. Wu and his kung fu treachery.

I like Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead.

I also love Team America: World Police and would show this to the creators of shit like Epic Movie and say "THIS is how you incorporate music into a parody!". My favourite was probably the montage song (which was also in South Park I believe but wasn't Team America made by some of the same guys anyway?), which is now what I think of whenever I see any montage scene, be it in a sports movie, an action flick or anything else.

Probably Spaceballs,it's damn funny every time I watch it, Hell anything Mel Brooks does is usually pretty funny .Hot Fuzz was pretty good too even if I never finished it.

Today, parody movies seem to be the worst comedies at the box office. However, I remember a time when the parody movie was once a thriving creature, who had legitimate jokes that made you laugh instead of stupid pop-culture references. It might seem like I'm some old guy saying "everything was better back in my day" but I'm actually 18, so I'm not sure if I can actually say that I remember because I don't think I was alive when the good parodies were out :p

So escapists, what are your favorite parody movies?

edit: fuck youtube and their cancelling my posting of videos
I think it was Mel Brooks that said you need to parody something with love. Most modern parodies aren't poking fun at genres and tropes in a loving way, but in a very cheap and exploitive way to make good trailers, not good movies. That's why the classics thrive.

Anyway, my favorite of the parody genre almost went to Airplane, but I had to cave to Spaceballs:

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist was ridiculously amusing for me.
I think we can all learn a lot from this movie, and one day, we could all be Gnodab.
Oh, and Master Betty is still the best antagonist ever.

Too long a list. So hard to chose just one. Twist my arm I'd say Airplane! Just brilliant.

Recent movie I'd say Black Dynamite tied with Hot Fuzz. Hot Fuzz has the best third act of any movie ever. I imagine that's going to happen in my town :)
