Is that really a parody movie? It seems more like straight comedy to me. Hilarious nevertheless.Super Six One said:I'm a fan of Talladega Nights : Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

That and, if you're talking about the "movie" movies (Scary Movie et al), they're severely lacking in intelligence. A dumb movie made by smart people, like Sean of the Dead, is like a dumb character played by a smart actor/comic, like Troy from Community played by Donald Glover (who's standup is lose-your-shit amazing). The "movie" movies just reference a bunch of current shit without really even making fun of the movies or showing any understanding of the source material. I heard one of them made fun of the central character of Juno as a preteen girl who just makes references the whole time. Yup, the only Wayans brother smart enough to do satire is Marlon.Wolfenbarg said:I think it was Mel Brooks that said you need to parody something with love. Most modern parodies aren't poking fun at genres and tropes in a loving way, but in a very cheap and exploitive way to make good trailers, not good movies. That's why the classics thrive.BoredDragon said:Today, parody movies seem to be the worst comedies at the box office. However, I remember a time when the parody movie was once a thriving creature, who had legitimate jokes that made you laugh instead of stupid pop-culture references. It might seem like I'm some old guy saying "everything was better back in my day" but I'm actually 18, so I'm not sure if I can actually say that I remember because I don't think I was alive when the good parodies were out
So escapists, what are your favorite parody movies?

My Favourite parody movie, and one of my favourite movies.
It's also incredibly funny, the first time i watched it i nearly died from laughing so hard.
And even to this day, me and my friend always quote it.
"At that moment, the chosen one learned a valuable lesson about iron claws THEY HURT LIKE CRAP MAN!"
Shame their wasn't a sequel, even though it was planned to have one.
(Plus in my mind it was the only film to have ever made a fart gag hilarious)
Days of Thunder with Tom Cruise, it's a direct parody of that.Blue_vision said:Is that really a parody movie? It seems more like straight comedy to me. Hilarious nevertheless.Super Six One said:I'm a fan of Talladega Nights : Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

Alas, the Austin Powers movies have got to be my favourite. I appreciate how they walk a very fine line between taking themselves seriously, and blowing their subject matter out of the water in parody.
